Everyone is always telling me how much boats depreciate.
I actually sold my last boat for more than I paid for it. $300.00 more to be exact. The 06 models were selling for so much more than my 05 and wait time to order one was about 2 months.
Anyone else luck out like I did, or was this a rare incident?

I bought an 18ft Tahiti bubble deck from a bubby of mine, drove and skied behind it for 3 years then turn around and sold it for the same thing I paid for it.
Only had it for sale for one week and some guy snatched it up. I should have asked more money.

i have bought boats with the intention of making some extra $ on them. of course none of them were new and all needed a little work, mostly interior which i can do myself. i liked to pick up 1 or 2 winter projects that i can turn around and sell just before memorial day. this is the first year in i think 6 that i havn't had a project to work on. i broke down last april and bought a new tri-toon but i ordered it without a motor, i just had them rig it for a johnson outboard since i already had one in the garage. im sure i can make a few bucks with this one as well but the wifes dad loves it and i will give it to him in another year. :rollside:

It can be done .....
A few years ago I sold my Edge 21 Phantom for $34k

Just after I sold it I spent 13k on this Baja Bandit.....I kept and used the Baja 2 seasons ....and sold it this spring for 21k
http://www.hotboatpics.com/pics/data/500/181DSCF000596.JPG
At the same time the Baja came up for sale this one did too....
I paid 13.5k for it....It was fast, but kept trying to kill me, so I traded it even for the Cobra I now own, which, If I ever finish, should bring more than the 13.5k I paid for the boat...http://www.hotboatpics.com/pics/data/500/181DSCF0004w.JPG

The best time to buy boats and other toys ....is when Christmas is nearing.....
Every Christmas I buy lots of commercial lawn mowers .....and equipment .....every spring I double, and sometimes triple my money selling the freshly washed lawn equipment... :p

I didn't make money, but I sold my '96 Ultra after 1 season of ownership for $1000 less than I paid. No way I could have rented a boat that many times for that much!

Our family had a 1977 Charger (Tahiti) that my dad put everything in himself, except the drivetrain, and paid about $5000. Sold it in 1993 for $4500. It did have about 400 hours on it.

First boat was a 1994 Monterey 206 Bowrider. Bought it for $10,000 and sold it two years later for $11,995. Only think I put into that boat was a new carb and some speakers lying around my house.

My last jetboat. I paid $2500, washed, changed the oil. Took it to the lake for the 2nd time and some 1 offered me $3500 for it. Fallowed him home, backed it up on to his drive way.

I sold for the same price I bought after using the boat 6 years.
Not really though. I had a pump re-build, bimini, ignition etc..... I figure I lost about $1000 after all was said and done.
