I had a 45' car trailer for sale on several sites.I`m still getting inquiries long after sold. Most were questionable,so I told one guy to send the cashiers check and when it clears he can come and pick it up.Well long story short took the Wells Fargo Cashiers check to my bank they did not like something, suggested to go directly to Wells then things really got spooky.I had explained to the cashier the deal, but when she enters info. into the computer she says will be right back. The next thing I know back in Presidents office getting the third degree a detective shows up and I had a problem. The check was forgery a very good one at that and when was all done they kept the check I had the trailer. We tried to lure him to come get "HIS" trailer but never heard from him again.I was told in no uncertain terms the only way to conduct business these days in a bank transfer as the minute funds hit your account it is guaranteed.

This guy did want to wire me money...But I do not give out bank info.
With all the computer scaming, even the bank transfer would be questionable?

Open another account, seperate from your existing accounts, and have him wire the money there.
Or better yet, use and escrow service. I think there are a few around that deal in auto and boat transactions.

Wire transfer is the only way to go. We won't even take cashiers checks any longer because of all the forgeries (for large amounts).

NEVER GIVE OUT YOUR ROUTING NUMBER!!!!! They don't need that to make a wire transfer, but with it they can take out cash from your account.
I have been burned by a fake cashiers checks.( from a large home builder...)About once every few months some 1 passes me a bad check. I am still debating if I want to take postal money orders.( since faking those get you in deep sh*t) If they don't want to carry cash, thats fine, we'll go to the bank toegther.

Call your bank to find out what the wire transfer procedure is, as I am sure there is some way to transfer funds to your account without giving certain "protected" account information or numbers.

I figured I would give other peeps the heads up on this one (new one/scam for me)
If the guy has the ability to come get the boat...He can walk his cash on over also.
Also with cash the government dosen't start looking for there cut.

It's a scam. Take a look at this Check overpayment scam (http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2004/12/checkoverpayment.htm)

All that info is on the checks you write everyday. The problem I think would happen later when the cashier check turns out to be bad.
