Congragulatoins on your new toy Throttle!! :) Honestly I don't get why some of these guys need 660 CC's or even 700 nowdays.. I got an old 350 Warrior with some minor mods, and I can't think of too many situations where I req'd more power then I got.. LOL Although I guess HP is like tits, you can never have too much.
Let me know if you ever want to go riding this winter! I love going out in the desert and exploring. :)

350
Great quad. I have a 700 Raptor and my wife had a 350...until she rode my 700. We sold her 350 and bought her a 700 :) Not necessarily for the power, but for the suspension. The 700 really rides nice.
Can you ride to the desert bar from where you are? What streets is that trail near? Since I'll be storing my TH in Havasu I'd love to be able to jump on the desert toys and take a run to the desert bar from my back yard!

I want the Yamaha YFZ450.
We have three of the 450's in our group, my son's is the first year model, and one of the other guys has a 06. His son just bought the Suzuki Quadracer 450R. If you are looking for the fastest-best handling quad in the sand, that Suzuki, I am sad to say, is a couple of big steps ahead of the YFZ.
Throttle, your backyard is one of the reasons I like Havasu so well.

Take that 350 of yours in the sand and you'll be begging for more power.

Surprised to hear that the Suzuki is better than the Yamaha.
A friend of mine has the Yamaha 450 and I really like it. Rode it a few times and has me convinced to get one someday.

The Yamaha is faster than the Zuki in the dunes. If you do a lot of big jumps on the Suzuki, plan to buy a new rear axle.

havaduner,
Strange. Our experiences at our, "home dunes"; Sand Mountain, Nevada have been exactly the opposite. Believe me when I tell you I wish they were not. We love the YFZ's, and my #2 son is already plotting the mods to put his machine back on top. His money, so no skin off my nose. He has already done the cam timing mod, and is looking at a pipe and carb set up.
If you are a Yamaha person, the difference between the two that we have experienced isn't catastrophic, but it is clearly real. Handling, hillshooting, everything.
It isn't rider skill either, the boys have swapped riders, same results.
They are both still trying to catch the my oldest son's long-rod Banshee, tho.
It don't handle and it is old tech, but she runs up that hill real nice.

Dont get me wrong, I like the Suzuki. I have a Yamaha, long travel suspension, pipe, carb tune. Left my timing alone. A buddy of mine does some testing for some of the magazines, just going what he has told me. I wont get rid of my bike, (unless my kid buys it) I think the Suzuki is more comfortable than the Yamaha, but I figure that just means I am getting old.
I very rarely hill race, unless they are willing to race up, and then back down!

For that kind of riding one really dosen't need a big cc quad.
Sand on the other hand is a different issue.
Were you riding alone?? Careful...
