End of an era for the family.
We've restored this boat 3 times since about 1972.
Trojan came out with this boat in 1959. Yes a SKI boat.
It's been alot of time and work to keep it operating for all those years.
It was powered by a 1959 312 Ford Interceptor Thunderbird motor.
That I have!
After the wood has pretty much totally rotted it was time for it to go.

Why stop now? Do it up one more time. ;)

Just thought it might be interesting that a runabout ski boat was built in 1959.

It's done. The wood is too far gone.
BUT I HAVE THE MOTOR! :)
In very good condition.

By the way, it didn't have tail lights. That was for disposal.

I don't know. Winter is coming up rapidly. A couple of sheets of Mahogony plywood and alot of diciplin could get the ol' girl pulling a skiier again. ;) How could you let a family classic go like that? But, you have to do something about the tail lights. Those look like they could rip an arm off if given the chance.

I say burn it, and video tape the whole deal. :crossx:

I don't understand if you've restored the boat three times, how you could let it get in such a state of disrepair?

The 59 Campbell in my avatar was built for family waterskiing and I'd call it a runabout (solid bench seats)
Hey HCS, if there is any hardware you'd part with, I'd be interested.

(1) The bottom of the boat kept comming apart.
(2) The boat has been upside down more than it's been right side up in the past 10 years
(3) Now the deck needs to be replaced for the second time. Just too much work.
(4) One of my brothers began to restore it but he lost interest and pretty much let it rot. :frown:
(5) The motor picked up water from the lake through the water pump.
(6) It had a Dearbo transmission that is totally shot.
(7) I'm going to convert the motor back into a car motor.
(8) I'll deal with the marine hardware off of the engine if anyone is interested
(9) My uncle towed the boat to his property.
(10) He's planning on running it over with his Catapillar.
That's the top 10.
Lots of memories left behind. :frown:

I respect your decision to abandon the boat, Tom. So many people want to restore, get started, and end up wasting a lot of time and money discovering they don't have the time, money, and energy for a restoration.
I doubt it's *ever* worth it to restore a boat.
.... I've done two. :D

I could create a nuclear bomb faster than I could restore that boat.
Now if it's made of metal and I can take a hammer to it, that's a different story.

I restored this one in '82-'83. Bought it from the guy who built it (Glen-l or Clarkcraft) starting in 1956 but not making it to the water (or at least DMV) till 1960. Had a 265 Chevy v-8 and a V-drive. Was a fun cruiser. I saw it about 5 years ago in the shape your Trojan is in. I so wanted to buy it back and restore it again.........but in the long run letting it go was the best thing. Memories are more fun than the heartache involved of getting the memory to reality once they are in that shape.

It would have been a different story if that Trojan had the original deck.
That's a replacement deck that my father installed that is nothing like the original.
It also has dry rotted over the years like the original deck.
It would be alot of work to remove that deck and try to re-fabricate the original.
Someone could I guess but not me.
If someone actually has that much ambition I know where the boat is.

I like the old school finned covers.
Here's mine with a 60's edelbrock cover
