It can be done. I won custody of my Daughter a few years back.

I have no complaints with the system. California is a 50/50 state. Everything is right down the middle, so if you stand up for your rights, and you'll get 'em.
Unfortunately, these things take time. Be patient and don't do anything stupid.

Me too, it can be done.
Laws are more gender neutral these days.
Bottom line, the kids can be with which ever parent they want.
Remember that 50/50 is a great way to go if you can swing it as most now-a-days do.
Loose your head and your ass will soon follow.
Don't let her get under your skin. Ignor the irritating things she may say. Responding to it will cut your sack off in the long run.
It ain't cheap, being able to come to an agreement will save you a lot of $$ in the long run.
It can hit $10 grand in a very short time.

there's a guy in Encinitas who has a father's rights organization... Been pretty helpful. He'll help work with your attorney as well...

Do your homework first and bottom line be sure it's in the best interest of the child. It took me a year just to put my case together to get custody of my son, and like TPC said, about 10 Grand or so.
I had a friend that took his ex to court and spent A LOT more than me, and didn't win... totally unprepared.

Good advice here LGC. Be well prepared, and demonstrate to the court that it's about the child. Make sure your Income and Expense declaration looks good and adds up. I scored points for my team by documenting time spent with my daughter, and a I/E declaration that looked like I spent some honest time preparing it and reconciling it.
I have joint legal/joint physical custody. Our court time was about income(s)
percentage of time spent, and amount of increased child support. I told the judge that I was willing to pay the fair amount, but I wanted to know that the court was getting good numbers to plug into the Dissomaster.
The judge seemed to appreciate the fact that we had done our homework, and his decision reflected it. I'd been told many times that our county Family Court was not father-friendly. I was very happy with my experience.
