Good luck on getting power back on to the Islands. I grew up in Oahu and we lost power for I think 3-6 days, That was 17years ago so Im not sure how long. But they couldnt figure out why it went out or what happend. The whole island just lost power.
I think one of the Locals turned the wrong switch off and went surfing

It's mostly steam generation power in Hawaii/Kona.
Takes up to 36 hours to get the Boilers back on line if they got shook up in the quake.
Lots of garbage knocks loose inside the pipes and the boiler water has to circulate over and over to clean up before they can re-lite.
The 4.1 aftershocks are of no help.
But sometimes,, all is well and they'll re-connect with no trouble, just time.
The GE gas turbines come on back line from 2 to 17 minutes if no damage to the distribution or transmission lines or transformers, and they have fuel feed. Usually Natural gas.

still on plane.have not moved since landing over 3 hours ago. what pisses me off is that we were only 10 minutes past LA when it hit. they should have brought us to la or back to phx. all hotels arew now full because all these people are here now and no one can leave so it should be packed at every hotel.
