How tough of a ride is it? 2 or 4 wheel?

It was pretty cool cruising old hwy95 through the desert, then the railroad tracks are busy as hell.Seemed like a train every 20 mins.

Never left 2wd,theres about 5 miles paved on the old hwy, most sandy dirt packed trails, some fairly deep sand, and alot of rock trails.for the most part cruised about 10-20mph and some of it about 35mph.
could be easy to make some wrong turns out there.also a few narrow passages.

Great pictures. Thanks for sharing.
How often did you run accross those abandoned vehicles? CAn't help but wonder if they're thefts or if people just junk them out there. Sad either way.

There was a few abandoned vehicles in that area,I would imagine some are thefts and some are junkers people dump. The hwy is just over the hill in the back ground. If it wasn't so close i'd have shot the hell out of them.
Yeah it's too bad people just dump junk in the desert.Wasn't too much dumped stuff out there along the way but a few spots there was and a few too many.

No extra gas. From my house No. side of town to Topoc and back to pilot at the 40 & 95 i used 3.3gallons.I topped off on the way back at pilot just because and also to get an idea of how much i used.
My friend filled his and drove it till empty and got 110 miles, mostly off road miles.

If you've got a spare tire, bring it.That was my only concern today. There was alot of sharp rocks and misc debris on the trails.Sticks,rocks,branches.
I have a spare and didn't bring it and thats when you normally will need it.
Oh yeah and don't forget goggles & a bandana. You will need them.

I was planning on bringing a spare and I just bought a bottle jack and a bunch of tools to keep in the Rhino at all times (you never know). Goggles and a bandana are a must for sure.

I also carry a pretty good asortment of tools.I still need to pick up a bottle jack and a few other items.Nothing worse than getting stuck out in the middle of the desert with no wheels.Makes for a long walk.

Yeah it will be good to meet up out there,The time of year is here.It was fun riding along the side of the tracks with the trains. It was nice you can either jump down in the wash or take the high road up with the trains. The road that runs along the 40 was alot of fun,i had it floored on most of that road.

YES!!! Tool kits are a must have! The kit you got me was used today, I think there is a picture somewhere  I buried mine deep and had to use the tow strap. Atleast it was another Rhino that pulled me out :)

How much air pressure were you running? Thats kinda one of the reasons I stuck with 12 inch rims instead of the 14's. With the 12's when you drop the pressure it makes the tires more of a balloon. That looks fun as hell though. :rollside: :rollside:

There is plenty of clearance for a stock Rhino,My cage is a couple of inches lower than stock and i'd say there was atleast 1 1/2 ft plus of clearance.
There is always the route over the Hwy,but where the old hwy 95 dumps you out it's easier acces to cross under and avoids all the traffic.

What you can't see is actually an incline I was trying to get up. This was our first sand trip and I hadn't lowered the pressure. After getting out of this we dropped to 9lbs and had a non stuck day.

Todd969,
I noticed you have that 1/4 wind deflector on your Rhino, does that work pretty well? If you are following some one does it deflect a good portion of the dust? I've been thinking about getting one. Thanks !

It's a 1/2 shield. It works pretty good, but you're always going to get some dust.

In that picture Dana is telling Leah "I told him to stop and put it in reverse, but he continued to gas it and threw sand up all over me. See honey I was right"
Yep, I probably should have listened, she was right
