I agree they are fun
But I don't trust it as far as having my kids in the back. AND they are not getting any smaller

No need for hostilities. Jeeps are awsome and perfect for your situation since you don't like the Rhino rear seat idea. I found an 88' Samuri today that just might be worth picking up for fun.

The 4 Door does not have the same trail capabilities as a 2 door due to the length and extra width....but more interior size..
If you really want to do rock and offroad...2 door wrangler....
Rubicon is really nice...lockers and d44 axles stock...that's all you really need with a nice 4.5 inch lift and go anywhere...even stock they can go most places

I wish I had the money for both, but right now, I'm saving for a hot rod. So, I went with the Jeep. More of a do it all vehicle for me, as I can take it on the highway, or take it off road.

I feel the same about the kids in the back.
We went to the snow a few times last year and ended up just taking the 4wheel drive XL. Still not as fun as the jeep but it did the trick.
I may have to break out the Jeep this year though.

all are fun offroad, I have a 74 ford bronco with a 351 Windsor matched to a c6 with lockers front and rear and its a VERY capable offroader
(still have it)no AC.
just sold the 03 burban Z71 with a 6" lift on 35"s with a magnacharger.
killer AC.
so if longer travels and alot of onroad driving will be done jeep or reg 4x4 auto would be the one i would go with..
That being said (besides the boat) that little Rhino I got is by far the funnest thing ive ever bought for local trips and the freedom to tiptoe around on the little trails around havi is great!! :rollside:
The biggest thing I think to consider is comfort meaning AC or not. then size.

Theres 2 big reasons why the Rhino is popular over Jeeps/ samurais.
1= The rhino will fit in the bed of a fullsize pickup, I can tthink of ANY other 4wd vehicle that can do what the rhino does and still fit in the bed of a truck.
2= The rhino also fits easily in toyhaulers. I can fit a rhino a quad and my kids 50 in the garage area of our trailer. Unfortuanately no rails or jeeps will fit.
It seems for the $$ you get a very capable off road vehicle that can be modified to hold 4 people and be street legal in some states, seems to be a win/ win for most.

actaully my s 15 will no longer be able to be on the street after the 1st of the year( have to reslavage it do to a small fender bender, not going to spend $250 on a $ 1k... more so since the tranny is going to go at any time.) so you just might.... only prop is I think the bed is narrower then the distance between my wheels.

i can't complain ... I've been hit 7 x this year in that truck(none were my fualt) its made me about 8k... I will be sad to see it go. it was my 1st car. I put about 150k miles, I lost count the number of GFs... Hell i use to tow the boat to HS then to the lake... god I miss those days... The only care I had was that I had enough money to pay my Car INS then gas money for the boat.

About three years ago I purchased a 99 Wrangler hardtop for the Havasu house. It is the best car decision I ever made. Most of the time I can leave it in 2WD in the hills as it sticks to the dirt like glue. Launchs boats under 20' instantly and turns on a dime . I would NEVER consider lifting it too high, the rollover factor. Without a hard top in Havasu you will cook most of the time so consider that. Most are all the same from 99 to 2005 except for the wheelebase size in Unlimited. Engine could use moet HP but consider it rarely goes over 40 off road in the hills.

I never did understand the logic of "You can put it in the bed of a truck".
You have to haul a Rhino to your destination, but you can just drive a Jeep there.
Where's the logic of shoehorning a vehicle in the back of a truck?

What if you drive "said" jeep to a destination and it breaks a suspension part that makes it unsafe to drive back? How do you get home? Tow company?
I don't think anybody ever thinks about doing it, but it is bound to happen.
The UTV is perfect as a 2 person trail rider. For a family, I think Miguel has the right idea, however I would by a used one after looking at new ones, I had no clue that Jeeps cost 30K.

Tough decision. I thought the same thing a few months ago. I decided to get a Jeep instead of a Rhino because it made more sense, For the kind of money you end up with into the Rhino, you can have a nice Jeep that will still be worth something when you go to sell it. You can also use the Jeep as a daily driver, stay clean, have AC, etc. So I bought this Jeep and I actaully drive it at least once a week. I can also tow it behind my motorhome or truck and it fits in my enclosed trailer. I have had it offroading plenty of times and it does just fine.
http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/497jeep.jpg
http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/497rear-of-jeep.jpg
Then I got this Rhino (I have since changed the cage and put in a back seat). I took it in on trade, so I wasn't really looking to get a Rhino, I already had solved that. Well, I can tell you, it is a whole different kind of fun. I can't explain why, but it just is. I don't think I'll be selling either vehicle anytime soon, because they both are fun in thier own way, but if I had to sell one, it would probably be the Rhino, just because it actually does make more sense to own the Jeep. I will be taking both this week when I go to Superstition, but I think the Rhino will get the most use of the two (the bikes will probably get the most use this week).

I never did understand the logic of "You can put it in the bed of a truck".
You have to haul a Rhino to your destination, but you can just drive a Jeep there.
Where's the logic of shoehorning a vehicle in the back of a truck?
Plus Long Travel Rhino's won't fit in your truck....you would need a trailer anyway....I know I would not leave my Rhino Suspension stock...
You drive a jeep to the destination and if you going to be breaking stuff, you bring extra axles....that's what the winch and hi-jack are for to repair on the trail...

This is soo silly. For 6k to 12k depending on year and configuration, you can get a toyota Land Crusier. One of the best off roaders there is, plus some models come with factory diff locks. If you don't know what that is, you shouldn't be buying a 4 wheeler. Ours is big enough to sleep in, we head out for 4 to 5 days at a time.

Rhino? Please..... '79 Bronco, C6, 9" solid axle rear, 400ci. Nice out? Pull the top off. Raining or muddy, leave the top on. We keep it at the river to take the boat to the ramp, but if the urge strikes, hit the desert. So what does it matter if it fits in the bed of a truck?

Tough decision. I thought the same thing a few months ago. I decided to get a Jeep instead of a Rhino because it made more sense, For the kind of money you end up with into the Rhino, you can have a nice Jeep that will still be worth something when you go to sell it. You can also use the Jeep as a daily driver, stay clean, have AC, etc. So I bought this Jeep and I actaully drive it at least once a week. I can also tow it behind my motorhome or truck and it fits in my enclosed trailer. I have had it offroading plenty of times and it does just fine.

Ditto, I have had three Jeeps and the killer rhino. Two different animals and two different types of fun. I used the Jeep a lot behind the motorhome and the Rhino was more fun off road.
Yep you need both. I have sold both and miss them both the same

The Rhino Jeep debate could go on forever.(It's pointless)
They are two totatally different animals and should be treated accordingly.
If you need to transport more than 2 people in a slow paced rockcrawling/hill climbing package with all the comforts of home the Jeep is impossible to beat.(standard 2dr rubicon would be my weapon of choice)
With that being said the Rhino will go everywhere a Jeep will go (Stock Jeep) at a much higher rate of speed. Also for 11K I have something with a warranty that is completely turn key....
I would love a Jeep but I have no desire/time to own a "project".I would purchase a new Rubicon as my primary vehicle if they towed good or drove well down the freeway at 85mph. (I don't care what anybody says a jeep sucks on the freeway and I don't want to own a Jeep and a truck)
I enjoy my Rhino for now and will keep it until I get bored or something better comes along.
Kilr,
Buy a nice jeep wrangler for Yvonne to drive around town and for you to play with on the weekends. Make sure you get the 4.0L 4x4 or you will regreat it.
Dn't worry us Rhino, artic Cat,Prpowler peeps will wait up for you (Yvonne) at one of the many beer stops we make!!;):D

Kilrtoy, honestly for the kind of terrain out in Havasu why would you buy a jeep? Jeep's are for creepy crawly rock crawling .02 mph kinda stuff. I'm sure some have them setup for hauling ass but most don't. You can go buy an old Rail with a VW motor in it for 2 - 3K and have a blast in it and be way money ahead on either a rhino or a jeep. Depending on what you find 4 seaters aren't a problem either. There's alot of old school ones that are still street legal as well. If you ever want to go for an old school rail ride, let me know I'd be glad to take you out for a quick spin. ;)

A jeep would be so much more useful than a rhino.
And as far as the long wheelbase jeeps, they are actually just as good offroad, if not better (depends on what you are doing). A scrambler won the top truck challenge this year.

I only meant stock....a stock rubicon 2door will make it through more places then a stock rubicon unlimited...just lost some angle clearance due to the longer wheelbase...
