... is outside grooming his hedge when he spots someone he doesn't recognize walking down the sidewalk. Being a friendly person by nature, the old man says hello and finds out they are new in town.
Through the course of the conversation he asks them where they're from and what it was like there. They tell him it was a wonderful little town with friendly, generous people. They asked him what this place is like and he tells them they can expect to find pretty much the same here.
Later that day, he spots another stranger and begins a conversation. He discovers this person is also new in town. They described the place they were from as being full of selfish, rude people. He tells them they can expect to find pretty much the same here.
