The letter says:
"A Metal clip that holds the fuel damper in place was determined by our supplier to be out of specification and must be replaced"
"Please do not operate your engine until this repair has been performed as there exists a possibillity that the clip could fail and result in a fuel leak and fire"
Please call and set up an appointment blah blah blah

Any idea if this is only for the HO and not the regular 496?

Check your serial number. It is for both the mag and HO.
In between any of the three sections of serial numbers listed below.
OW060462 THROUGH OW069012
OW310700 THROUGH OW387390
OW605000 THROUGH OW632245

If you are saying your serial number is within this range then you do need to have the retainer replaced.
If you are saying this is the serial number range on your recall letter..... check your serial number on your engine and see if it falls into any of the ranges I posted. If it does, then have the retainer replaced.

If they do sequential number stamping, thats damn near 90,000 engines. If so, I bet everyone on this site that has 496 is effected

Some of those numbers will be for Transom assemblies and drives.

Does it specify dates and ranges? I'll have to check out my boat. My H.O is an 02.

Yes, I got it.... Bad thing was, I got it a few weeks after picking the boat up from Shockwave for service. I'll just have Aaron take care of it for me before next season....

Looks like it's only 0W serials. All three of my pieces are 0M (2001 vintage).

Thanks for the update! I am the 3rd owner of my boat, so chances are I would have never known until I was treading water with my belongings!
