My wife is the GM for chain of hardware stores out here in the high desert. yesterday we went to the Hesperia store to replace the fax machine. Just as we were pulling up to the building, an older lady pulled up to a parking space then we heard the tires squeal and in an instant there was a shower of glass everywhere. She drove into the front of the store, made a right turn and halfway into the next unit (under construction). No one was injured, she was very upset and shaking but we told her to stay in the car until help arrived. I only had a disposable camera but i will post the pics when we get them back. If she had gone straight or to the left it would have been a different story. I have heard of things like this happening but the first time i ever actually saw it.

Maybe she's onto something though. Think about it, a drive thru hardware store might not be such a bad idea. :D :D :D

Good thing it wasn't a "Farmers Market". I say we treat people like the airline industry treats their pilots. Take away their license when the reach 60. What a second, then I would be driving my kids and my parents around. Let me re-think that.

it seems like this is happening a lot lately.....and i cant understand at all why or how anyone can do this ..."accidently"....
ok...if you notice in the pictures...theres a good 20 feed of sidewalk she would have had to cross before she goes "oops, wrong peddle!" .....and she actually made it into the store then made a turn? come on....how is that anything but intentional?
old people should be screened more often (twice a year) to see if they are able to drive a motor vehicle.....in some instances, they are worse then drunk drivers, but nothing is ever done out of sympathy that they are getting old.

this pic shows where the car started from and she was burning rubber. she jumped both curbs and cliped the support which moved it approx 3 inches.

it appears she was attempting to park in the spot where these two people are now standing.

hocus,
did she have any explination for her actions?
I can understand her jumping the parking block....maybe bump into the support column from an "oops, wrong peddle" kind of situation.

at the time of the accident the lady was just freaking out an shaking, i thought she was gonna have a breakdown of some kind. we are still trying to get a copy of the police report to see if she even gave an explanation.

Testing would help sort out those who are losing their skills, but the big problem is that they can get disorientated without warning. What are you going to do when your parents get too old to safely drive?

Did you notice if she was white? She may have been trying to kill some black people.
