As long as you remember that plasma is a gas, and that over time, it and the great colors you see now will fade, and you will need to get a new one in 5-7 years...not a good thing. But for the moment, my answer is yes..but make sure you get 1080P so you can take advantage of Blu-Ray or HD-DVD when you decide to go that way.

Go for the Panny and don't worry, it will last you longer than 5-7 years. The Panny has a 60,000 hour life if you keep the contrast at 40% or below, that is about 20 years if you watch TV for 8 hours a day.

Blu-Ray and/or HD-DVD should become a factor in about 5-7 years.

I actually ended up going with the Panasonic. After going back to Circuit City (where service isn't state of the art anymore) and lounging in one of those greasy leather recliners they have set up in front of all the the plasmas I decided to stick with the Panasonic I had purchased at 5am this morning. The picture just seems alot sharper. I just wasn't sure it was $500 sharper until I got to sit down and really compare the two without a riot going on behind me. The input I got from you guys and every salesman I could get ahold of have made the price difference alot easier to live with. So THANKYOU all for taking the time to help me out. :) :)
