the thing you need to look for in a pit bike is, parts, there are several that have interchangeable parts with honda and suzuki, those are the ones to buy, not the cheapos you cant get parts. when i worked for honda there where a couple good ones, i just dont know the names. check into them first, they are fun though :)

110cc's and 150cc's are the shit now.
The 50's just run out of ass for the 150lb guys riding them.
Prolly get a 50 pretty cheap(relatively) nowadays, as most of the serious guys are switching to the bigger bikes.

No, I was one of those that partook of the frenzy the first time around.
wsuwrhr is right, they were great but the bigger guys needed more grunt. I had a lot of fun with mine but..."on with the next best thing"...

I had mine back in the 90's. It was similar to the ones made by Dandy except mines gas tank was in the front.

i have a 110. the prob with the pit bikes is they are built cheap and they break. granted you can change parts out but just for starters the spokes get loose and break even tho they are supposed to be " heavy duty", the pegs will snap off if you jump it or actually ride it and pop your tire like crazy! they are fun tho!

Don't forget to check the old bikes. I picked up a 1973 ST90 Honda (trail 90 with 12" spoked wheels) for a couple of hundred. Had about 100K miles on an RV bumper and 1500 on the ground. I bought a license plate for it, so I could runaround the marina.

I have a UPC 110 pit bike. Most of the parts on it are interchangable with Hondas. I have some friends with the honda 50's. I just had mine in Glamis this last weekend. It does good on the harder stuff but not so good in the thick sand. I want to try a paddle though.

I have a Honda 50 that was tricked out well before they got really popular and before you could buy them tricked out cheap. I have Handbrink forks, and extended chromoly swing arm, a chromoly frame. It is only punched out to 88 cc. Got a few other items on it, but ended up spending about $8K on it - and I can't even sell it for $1,500. I also spent more time in the emergency room because of this bike because I tried to keep up with the local kids out here which used to include riding Metzler's 50 track in his front yard. Tore my LCL, MCL, spiral fracture to my left heal, broken ankle, dislocated my right shoulder, and a whole lot of road rash. I now only ride it with my kids. I would sell it, but I will take such a loss that I keep it. I can tune it for my 5 year old when he gets big enough.

I have a Honda Z50, as well as my friend and my roomate. Also have two Yamaha TTR90 and the bigger TTR125, though it isn't a pit bike. I am looking to buy a TTR50 that we built up some for a buddy. We have a small track in the back yard, just have to remember they are 50's not a power house, and they were built for kids. Though you can spend a fortune on them. At some point they become more of big bike than a 50..depends on what you want to do with them. Thinking of putting a 125 motor in my Z50..though i might just buy the TTR and keep the Z mostly stock...except for the big boy handle bars....Have to be careful about those chaonda bikes....some are good and some fall a part easy....
