Although not exactly brand-new (other than the drivetrain) this is exactly what someone needed to do. I thought of this a while back, but just don't have the resources (duramax master tech / large shop). I knew you could get the motor and trans in crates. There are always one and two year old 'Burbans on car lots for sale. They would be 3/4 ton models and it looks like these guys (or this guy, whichever) change the rearend also.
Raylar ought to get involved, as it would give them a huge supply of 8.1s :)

I haven't seen a price yet. Whatever it is, people will pay it.

I think I remember it being $65k or so......pretty steep for a used suburban even with the Dmax.

That is the price I remember seeing. Little to rich for something used.

They can have there 65k....i bought a brand new 3/4 ton with the 8.1 litre fully loaded for under 40k (Photoglu special).....it tows 10k easy. It may only get 12-15 mpg, but i bet the diesel doesnt do better than 15-19 mpg(cause its heavier than the truck) and gas is $1.00 a gallon cheaper than diesel, and oil changes are $50 cheaper.....oh i forgot i cant do 95 up the cajon pass towing though...boo hoo.

11 mpg towing my 7k toybox......12 around town/ 15 hwy non towing.....about 4-5 less mpg then all my friends with diesels.....but a diesel burb(custom made) is 25k more than the 8.1....do the math, its obvious just a status thing rather than neccesity. And several times ive had 7 in my burb to the river, i need the extra spaces
