Boxing Matches Tomorrow
LAUGHLIN, NV - The Avi Resort in Laughlin is billing it as the United States WBC Heavyweight Championship fight. Duncan Dokiwari has 24 fights behind him, with only 3 losses and 21 wins, all by knockouts. He is a former Olympics Bronze Medal winner in Boxing and faces New Jersey brawler William Palms. Zef Ramirez of Zeferino Entertainment is the promoter. He told TSN the winner of the fight will definitely be in the top ten fighters.
Ramirez said “there are a lot of other world title belts. I would love for all of the other sanctioning parties to come together and have one world champion. But, because of the politics involved, it’s probably not going to happen.” He believes the one fighter worthy of the championship title is Vladimir Klitschko, the powerful Ukranian International Boxing Federation heavyweight champ (who earlier this month stopped unbeaten US fighter Calvin Brock in the seventh round.) Can there be a unifying champion accepted by such entities as the WBA, WBC, IBF, etc.? Ramirez says “I’m hopeful, but I doubt it.” Another bout at the Avi on Friday is a bout between Carlos De Leon and Charden Ansoula in a WBC Super Middleweight elimination fight. The winner faces a mandatory fight with the current U.S. Champion, Joey Spina from Providence, RI. On the Junior Middle Weight card is East LA’s own Joshua Myers.
Tickets for Friday’s big fights that start at 6:30pm (PST) - the “Fists of Fury” - are $25 and $35 and available on-line at www.avi-casino.com or at the Avi. For more information call 1-800-INFO.AVI (463-6284)
