So my search engine ranking is pretty much notta right now. I've been told it's mostly because I don't have any links. So they say the major search engine (google) looks for links to other sites and if those sites have a link back it's a +.
Beats the heck outta me but if that's what they say then I'll add a link page.
Soooooo, if anyone here would like to trade links please post yours.
Auto related is best, boat realted is good and I'm doing an "other" section for the rest. Please no links to porn (I've prolly already got it booked marked anyway).
If any of you web guru's have any other ideas on improving my ranking please feel free to speak up.
The link to my site is in my sig.
Thanks! :)

The website needs to be SEO'd (search engine optimized). Meaning it helps it to get listed on search engines without buying adwords. Looks like you don't have any keywords (meta tags) in your pages? Also a page that states what you do for the front page, rather then that of just pictures. Almost like a well written page that would incorporate keywords along with a business story. Web spiders look at websites and pic out stuff and gathters the information and sends it back the search engines. If you don't have the info easy for them to gather then you get looked over. Another thing is naming pictures correctly (as what the picture is, not just a file out of a camera), this helps if people are looking for a picture of that item, ei:google images.
One thing that is alomost certain, the products you're trying to sell have keywords, and your competiters are probably buying hits through the search engines (which are known as adwords).
Hope this helps a bit, but it gets even more complicated then this.
Oh, and link trades help with traffic to your site. Just because they are up on a site doesn't mean you'll be rated higher on a search engine. I am about to launch my parents new site, updated with an oscommerce cart, we can trade links. Here is their current site www.southcoaststainless.com

thanks for the feed back. I do have meta "keyword" tags inbedded in the front page.
And I know it's not alot but on the front page I have:
"Your source for CPE Stainless Steel Braided hose, Smooth Bore Stainless Steel Braided Teflon hose, Push Lok hose, DOT Stainless Braided brake lines and hoses. We also offer a wide assortment of hose ends, AN fittings, weld bungs, adapters including brake system adapter fittings, banjos and other components. If you do not see it on this site please ask."
That's pretty much what I do. If you click view source you can see the meta keywords. Anyway I was told that google does like to see a link page. Heck I donno but I do know that once a friend got his site linked with http://www.roadsters.com/ his hits went way up and he got much better google placement.
I did the adwords for a long time. Started off dirt cheep but now everyone wants some and drove the price way up. But a few of my competiters don't buy any adwords and are ranked right up at the top. I viewed the source on their pages and the meta tags are pretty close. Like copy / past close. lol The main thing missing is I don't have any links. So what the heck, I'm going to give that a shot.
Again, thanks for the feedback and your link has been added to the list. :D
You will like the oscommerce. I love it when someone uses it.

Embed the keyword tags in ALL your pages. Here is a site I finished about 2 month ago, it has already been picked up by the search engines. www.fabulousfrosting.com . Check out the OS cart and see how I had her name the pictures, believe it or not it really helps. I have a friend who optimizes sites for a living, so I have consulted him a few time. If you have any other questions, ask away.

You can chalk that up to adwords.

Ok, I will do or more like I'll ask Kflat to do it. lol I was told the spiders won't pick up things in the cart. But hey, I'm going with the flow and will also rename the photos too.

You have to be careful with SEO companies, but keep in mind that things like this do take a long time.
Tweaking out a website for SEO can take even longer because of the way search engines update. Most search engines only do a major index update once a month. That means that you will have to wait at least a month to find out if the changes you made to the site have made a difference.
Here is the advice I give clients:
1. Content, content, content. Search engines love to read. The more text you have the more they have to read. It has to be relevant text. If it is updated about twice a month that is even better. Defiantly update the text on your home page once every two weeks. More is better.
2. You need links from relevant sites. If your site is about racing products then you need links from race related sites. Now I would never turn down a link, but the closer they are to your application the better.
(The jury is out as to google liking link pages. I personally don't think that they like the standard links page, but much prefer in line text links)
3. If you are new site you probably won't even show up for six months to a year in some cases. There is a rumored "sandbox" that all new sites are sent to in Google. This keeps the spammers down. There are ways to break out of the sandbox, but there is no know 100% formula that works every time.
Obviously there is a lot more, but the first two are really the meat of it.

You can chalk that up to adwords.
I figured that's what I was paying the SEO company to do.
Hopefully it will start improving.

i don't drink those "practice-beers" and shouldn't you be installing "nord's" cowboy truck wrap ??? :D (merry x-mas too "d") d-no :)
To make his truck look like a wagon?:D
Also, Merry X-mas to you and your Fam. Are you going out to Parker for NY? I'll be out there Friday morn till Sunday Morn. Testing props, and probably hangin out with RB.
I figured that's what I was paying the SEO company to do.

Adwords are bought from Google. You buy per hit on keywords, as SuperDave has pointed out they can get rather costly.

whe I first started google's adwords I was paying around 4~5 cents per click and was doing strong sales every month. Then they kept going up and up. I stoped when I was paying 85 cents per click and was not even at the top any more.
Thanks for your input HB. Looks like I'll go a link page and also do another page with some in the text as well.
