Long Beach -- Two Long Beach police officers were shot "multiple times" after they stopped a sport-utility vehicle, and both were stable after undergoing surgery, authorities said.
The shooting occurred near Sixth Street and Long Beach Boulevard, said a Long Beach police official.
The suspect, described as a Hispanic or Filipino male in his late 20s or early 30s, is between 5'7" and 5'9" and 210 to 220 pounds.
The description went on to say that the man had short hair or a shaved head, and tattoos on both arms.
The vehicle was described as a white 1998 Nissan Pathfinder with a California license plate, 4AVN056.
Anyone with information is asked to call 562-435-6711.

Prior to retiring we had a big storm drain street job in the area spanning from West Coast Choppers area all the way to Long beach Poly H.S. if you know the area. I didnt like working there at all, it was a very tough ass area. While in the hood I cant tell you how many times I saw LEO organize and then do house entry's. Sort of scary when there are numerous police with weapons drawn entering a house. That whole area is a shit hole, not good. Prayers for you friends. NSF

I was working at my duplex near there when this occurred. Too far away to hear shots, but i heard the continual sirens. I knew it was not a good sign. Sounds like this fool got the drop on them, not good.

Luv n life can reiterate waht I said as he worked on that job also. If you have never spent time in areas such as this (So. Central, LBZ, Santa Ana, Compton etc) except for driving thru them then you dont get the full effect of what its like. We did a lot of work in the heart of gangland USA and it was very uncomfortable to be a "whitey" in these areas, very scary at times. At one point on one job we were told by LAPD to not continue working at nite because it was not safe and they could not protect us!!!! NSF

Maybe its because i grew up in a bad area of south fontana, but i stayed for a while in carson, on the border of compton and never had problems. I stayed with a bunch of philipino friends (i am whitey) and we would skate parks around there at night alot and nothing too major, got jumped one time for my board by a few tongans. Besides that we never saw much. Mostly around our house it was the tongans and samoans that you needed to watch your back on.
Sucks to hear about those cops, hope they get the piece of shit that did it.

My best friends brother is about to go into the academy for LB. This is exactly what I am concerned about in the future.
With any luck the shooter will be caught and dealt with appropriately!

Catmen...I hear ya on the tongans, I lived on Rochester and Foothill years ago when the Mormans brought the tongans in from Tonga, to civilize them, found out that was a bad idea, they balically left them 5 and 6 families to a house and bailed. The city had to pass laws banning the eating of household pets, these guys were doing their shopping at the local pound, the big dogs didnt stand a chance. They passed the law after the guy rode up the street on a horse and got it in the back yard and slaughtered it while the neibhors kids were watching!!! Geat brick layers, but a lot of inbreeding....

Pray for a speedy recovery for those guys..Let's not forget the Oceanside P.D officer that was shot and killed by a 16 and 17 year old a couple of days ago. He leaves behind a wife and 2 month old. Also, an officer in the San Francisco area was shot and killed a few days ago as well.

I know where your talking about on the Rochester track. Many of those are the Lataou family. LaVaka, and boots were friends of mine many years back. They are some real nice people if on the good side, if not then watch your back. We went to a bbq at their house where they had pig pit and that was some of the best meat ive ever had. Not death penalty unless one of the officers die (which I pray not) so they should give him back if he is found down there. Either way I have a feeling he will be "escorted" back across the border in one fashion or another, just like the other F'er that shot and killed Burbank Officer Pavelka a few years back. I'm in no way defending this POS that shot these two officers and I hope he's handled by the local PD over our justice system. It's the life he chose to live and he deserves to die by the way he chose to live. Basically an eye for an eye. I understand that seeing this is hard for you as a fellow LEO. here in o'side, one of our law enforcement officer's was gunned down by a 17 year old (allegedly) gang banger .... during a routine "back-up" traffic stop ..... 25 year old (3 yrs) on the force, gone .... leaves behind a young wife and young child ..... people (thugs, thieves) have "no heart" anymore  rip ospd hero :(
This whole incident started with an officer stopping a car in front of a house related to a famous football player's family. (Oceanside, San Diego, Chargers, Linebacker, do the math.) Bad neiborhood/bad family, the officer killed was working this gang house hard. "As he should." Suspect/hispanic layed atop a cars hood with a carbine with scope 400' away. There are a number of other details that stink of conspiracy to kill a cop that I choose not to disclose.
We do not get paid enough and get less credit for being the thin blue/green line. Society needs to know that we enter your neighborhoods without your knowledge, remove the gangsters/filth and return home before you even wake up. As it should be.
This officer is a hero, both to his family and to the rest of the law abiding public.
God Bless, God's speed and see you in heaven. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of GOD.

The incident in Oceanside is just another example of the cruel, heartless, unthinkable level of violence which is aimed at law enforcement. This punk, who was uninvolved in the incident, took the life of an inocent officer who was just doing his job. The female officer who asked for back-up is very lucky she to wasn't sniped in the back. This seems very much like the shooting of CHP Officer Stiener at the Pomona Court a short time ago, some young poohbutt gangster tring to make a bane for himself

To the LEO's on this topic...Do you think it best to arm the good citizens to serve as sort-of a second line of defence...or for that matter the first line to deter violent crime in their own "hoods"....kinda like you see a crime, call the law, and be prepared to back his ass up, in case some shat bag decides to play dirty. Some of our "Make My Day" laws here in the midwest have reduced violent crime stats. Our prayers to the heros out there.

Definitely understand your anger man.
I actually considered being an LASD back in late teens early 20's. Me and a couple buddies did the ride a longs couple of us did the explorer program and it was a complete turn off to me. I'm not suited to go find some kid who just got shot on a sidewalk some place. Giving a family a death notice (been on the recieving end of that too). It's definitely a job for the well suited. It's thankless and disrespected by many. Just know that there is some of us who do appreciate you boys and girls out there, and think of the family left behind by these fallen officers. Just your rant earlier in this thread was misunderstood by me perhaps as a "hot head" officer. Sounds like you have the dedication and the liking for the job as well as the wits that let you understand my perspective as a citizen. You be safe out there, some of us do know we are a little safer because of folks like you and those fallen officers. Be safe.

Lue, glad I was able to articulate to you how I feel about the situation. The understanding of the good citizen, neighbor and friend is something law enforcement should strive for. If more officers would take the 30 seconds to explain why we do certain things, the divide between citizens and officers would be alot closer. And you are right it does suck seeing the worst the world has to offer on a daily basis, but it is so rewarding when we can help someone, especially the lil ones

So what does mexican has to do with it???? Does it really matter if he's mexican or Irish???? Race has nothing to do with it. Slimeball = Slimeball end of story...
This points to Biglue's issue of being mexican and being streotyped when pulled over. hmmmmm I wonder where that comes from?

Again you guys are blinded by color and not the person..... Do you think he could be Pilipino???? maybe he is a German and was was adopted by hard working Mexicans... F*ck who cares.... The bottom line is he's a scum bag and his race isn't the cause of it..... So I suggest when someone says "gut the mexican" maybe they should say gut the scum bag..... But if you're the KKK I guess I understand..... :D Oh and by the way my last name is Gonzales so I guess I'm in that group huh? But the good news I'm only half but my son is a 1/4 and I guess since he has a last name of a mexican he's got to grow up in this sh*t.....

Apparently you didnt read the article posted or do not listen to the news ? I didnt realize they deport Philipinos to Mexico . You saw mexican and started typing without reading the article? Why would you mention your son in this .Go back and read every post and link and if you still think this is some good old Hispanic or Philipino so cal boy I will erase what I posted . This guy is a low life POS and should have never been here in the first place.

I'm in no way defending this POS that shot these two officers and I hope he's handled by the local PD over our justice system. It's the life he chose to live and he deserves to die by the way he chose to live. Basically an eye for an eye. I understand that seeing this is hard for you as a fellow LEO. With that being said I can't help but pick apart your rant. With this post you come off as some hot headed movie cop who is better behind a desk than behind a gun. You sounded way too dangerous to be a cop. I certainly hope you LEO boys are blessed and held in protection of the man upstairs from POS like the one we're discussing but man, you display many of the same disqualities of the common gang banger in that post.
It's very easy to take this tack when you can sit comfortably knowing that your back is being cover by our LEO. You don't have to face a criminal that may or may not have a gun day in and day out and have your lcareer or ife depend on how each stop is made. You don't have to explain why you pulled your weapon on someone who was ready and willing to shoot you. I'm not calling for a shoot first and ask questions later mentality, but at some point we have to understand that we've protected the criminals way too long.
I get so tired of hearing a mother of a slain gunman tell the reporters that her son was a good boy and that the police had no reason to shoot only to find out that he had drawn down on an officer.
No, I don't blame his rant. I feel that way myself sometimes. I worked in the LA/LGB harbor for many years and had to drive through Wilmington at midnight a number of times. I was scared sh*tless. I took my family out of So. Cal.

If his name was Timothy O'maley would you be saying "gut that Irish scum bag".......I don't think so. They point is the guy is a piece of shit PERIOD! The beef at hand is the the inculsion of defining that fokn guy as a "Mexican______". Like Boat Floating said, we find it derogatory when tying in "Mexican or Hispanic" to a person like this as an adjective in their descriptions you rant off. Does that make sense to you?
It's very easy to take this tack when you can sit comfortably knowing that your back is being cover by our LEO.
When you get a cop pushing your head into your car and taunting you to mouth off or retaliate so he could whip your ass because he is behind a badge and could get away with it. When you are obviously hated because of your ethnic back ground and made be felt like a POS because of it. when you are you are demoted to society's scum when you know you're a good a citizen again because of your ethnicity you come talk to me about tact. Yeah I experinced that shit all in one traffic stop. It over him percieving my bottled water as an alcoholic beverage. Get this, it was around midnight after I got off my second job in an industrial area where no one would have seen a thing.
I get so tired of hearing a mother of a slain gunman tell the reporters that her son was a good boy and that the police had no reason to shoot only to find out that he had drawn down on an officer.
Agreed. A lot of parents decide to think their kids are "good kids" and turn a blind eye to obvious signs telling them different. All the shit you brought up does not make a good argument to challenge what I know exists from personal experience. If I have an opinion against the grain it's because I have seen what I shared with you. All because some POS who just happens to be of the same desent as some of us goes and commits the atrocity this guy did does not mean the rest of us are the same way. I hope that is clear enough for you.

Yes, it is true. Got further circs on this idiot too.
I guess Parole was watching him prior to this shooting. He went to a pawn shop and picked up a holster. They wanted a black and white to stop him so this was the first one in the area. They pulled up to a red light, and the guy got out and unloaded on the cop car while the cops were waiting at the light as well. What a piece of shit. Cops never had a chance. Straight out ambush for murder.
I guess they have been watching him since Xmas Eve. Today he left the hotel and they made their move. On contact, SWAT said hello, he acted tough like last time, they showed him who was tougher. Dead on contact.
Justice.

Santa Ana did a fine job of ridding society of another waste...I heard the news while at work and it was well received as could be expected...Now we can focus on the recovery of the two officers and helping their families in this time of need...To any Santa Ana PD members, good job and continue to watch your backs!!!
