View Full Version : Hot Boat "Site Security Alert" ???

sdpm

I am getting a message every time I try to log onto here. It reads:
Security Alert
There is a problem with this site's security certificate.
The name on the certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site.
Then it asks if you want to proceed?
I click on any of the answers and nothing happens? To get in I have to keep hitting the "Close Box Red X" to get in.
Anyone else see this pop up or is it just me??

Certificate reads: Issued to ***boat.com
Issued by Equifax Secure ebusiness CA-1
Valid from 7-13-2005 to 7-14-2007
Then it asks if you want to install certificate?
Now it pops up everytime I move to a different thread or even refresh! Fix it!!

Just use this link........... http://***boat.com/forums/index.php .
It takes you directly to the forums and bypasses the main page which is probably whats trigering the alerts. Hope that helps.

That link doesn't work, it still does the same thing. Thanks for trying though. I get it too every time I move to a different page. I'm sure it's something between my computer and the site. Hope they can get it fixed pretty quick, that "beep" is getting quite annoying. Guess I could go check out other sites, but where's the fun in that...

Funny, Other than not being able to log on for a few hours yesterday, I've never had a problem. I tried both the "***boat.com/forums" and "/index.php" links and they trigger cert warnings at every turn. I've been connecting via ***boat.com and clicking on the oil pressure guage to get in... no problems.

The problem you are seeing is because the SSL cert for ***boat.com was issued to "www.***boat.com" not "***boat.com". I'm not sure why you are going secure or how you managed to get to a secure connection. Maybe you have the site bookmarked that way. You can tell if you are in SSL mode because the url will have an "s" in the http:// part. Like this https://www.***boat.com. It should be http://www.***boat.com unless you are checking out of the store.
Try setting it to http://www.***boat.com and re-bookmarking the site. There is a possibility that you are using some sort of antivirus/ "internet security" software that is trying to upgrade all your browsing to a secure connection if possible. If that is the case please go and poke the software manufacturer in the eye for me.
To sum up: At this time I do not believe this to be a problem with ***boat.com. The security certificate was issued to www.***boat.com not ***boat.com for good reason. If you feel the need to browse this site securely set your bookmark to https://www.***boat.com, but in my opinion this is a bit silly. I think a better practice would be not to discuss sensitive information on a boating message board.

I had some security cert. warnings a while back but it was almost every site I hit. It took me forever to notice that my clock and date settings had gotten messed up. I believe the security certs are date and time stamped and if the date time on your comp. doesn't match you will get a cert warning.
Once I set the clock and date they quit showing up.
Now if I can just figure out how my clock got screwed up I'll be happy :D

I'm waiting for a response from Norton to see if they are the problem. If that is the case it's a poorly thought out feature, but you can get around it by bookmarking "www.***boat.com/forums" instead of "***boat.com/forums".

Well I'm still not sure what is causing you to go secure, but if I had to guess I still think it is an internet security package like Norton, McAfee's or Trendmicro, possibly even windows defender or one care. Here was the response from Norton:

Mines doing it at home, maybe its Firefox. Didnt seem to start until yest when the site was messed up.
BTW, its bookmarked with the WWW and it still does it.
No norton etc etc. Just security with firefox.
For whatever reason, leaving the index.php off at the end clears it though.

***boat,
half the links on the main page are secure links and half are not. The errors are coming from a mismatch when the certificate is used for the secure content. Remove the secure content and it should solve the mismatched certificate since the certificate would not be used for non secure traffic. Just a guess.

It's not the browser it's the site. You can also try using https://www which might help.
Also do this:
To allow mixed content
In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
Click the Security tab, add ***boat.com to trusted sites and then click the Custom Level button.
In the Security Settings dialog box, scroll to the Display mixed content setting in the Miscellaneous section, and then click Enable.
Click OK in the Security Settings dialog box, and then click OK to exit Internet Options.

Real simple:
1. Set your Home page to http://www.***boat.com/ and not http://***boat.com/
NOTE: the www is missing from the 2nd address (link) above and will cause the security warning. Use the www in all your address entries trying to view ***boat. (The ads on each page act like pop-ups causing those security warnings)
2. Change your Favorites and link button to ***boat to the same in 1 above.
3. Gallery not working is a separate issue that i think ***boat is working on.

The links on the home page are not secure on the server end or in the source code. I'm not sure what software is doing it, but on client side some, but not all people are seeing the links change to https automatically. It would make sense for a Internet security software to do this, because it would automatically encrypt your login. It will however mess things up if you are using ***boat.com as a base not www.***boat.com. Also since some of the links are hard links not relative you will get a non-secure content warning.
