i wanna lift my 06 2wd dmax. i was planning on a CST 8in w/ 37's but everyone keeps telling me that i'll be putting too much stress (steering etc...) with that setup and to stick with a 6in and 35's... If i do 6in it will most likely be RCD... any input on either setup. Better to be safe with a 6in or can i safely do 8???? I am definetly into LONGEVITY and RELIABILTY. thx

You can do the 8 in lift I have the smae truck with the fab tech, just get the tie rod aftermarket kit installed it helps alot!

if its 3/4 ton stick with the 6 inch therewill definatly be less stress on the front end particulary the wheel hub/bearing assembly (verry pricy ) 1 ton trucks used a differant wheel bearing assembly that was alot stronger from what my buddy at the dealership says. just my .02 Dan

ok i will check into that steering kit...is that supposed to pretty much eliminate "steering loss" and idle/ pitman arms going south?

I have no problems with mine, my 02 was really bad about steering loss at idle almost like it had no power steering, the 06 doesnt do that really at all. The independent front end still needs a little TLC after a while but that kit makes most of the down side go away. 6in lifts just arent big enough for my taste. To be honest I dont see the difference between a 6 and 8 in lift on the steering. It should be the size and weight of the tire and wheel that makes the difference!

BTW I lifted my truck 9000 miles ago and drive it like its a F1 car most of the time. Just had the tires rotated and balanced and did the alignment. No problems at all, just minimum changes.

True, i should have been more specific. My question was about tire size really. Luckily you guys were on the ball. ok so i'm back with the 8in and 37's cause the 6in is almost not worth the $$$ for how little its goin up.
Any idea on how much that 8in Fab tech or CST kit might run. I'm am using a good shop but the killer is the price of that kit alone????

Well I can tell you that I paid 4100 total for the fabtech 8 inch, dual shock hoops and ALL resevoir shocks front and back installed. A good friend on fime is a west coast distributer for Toyo tires, I have the open country's on my truck and you just cant beat them, maybe I can help you out with the price for them too. What prices are you getting for the lift

Do yourself a favor and get the CST. I have had A RCD, Fabtech and CST lifts. The CST lift is by far the best riding, no squeaking, and why do you see most HD's lifted with the CST? because its the best. I have a 06 LBZ duramax with 37's and love it.

The 4100 I pain has an extra 1500 in shocks and hoops, try calling Dave at a place called universal customs in Az its 480-969-3179, tell him Mike Allen referred you. I know its kinda far from you but he does great work for the price. At least you can get an idea of what a great price will be. And Im serious about the tires, we get them at a great price, what size wheel did you want 17,18,20 ?

Well It sounds like you have a 2wd HD. Save the money and buy the the CST 4" lift spindle and cognito A-arms and steering upgrade. This will get you anywhere between 5-7 inches of lift alot cheaper.I just did the same thing and it will easily clear a 315 tire or a 35".

CST or Cognito
Most guys with CST's use Cognito pitman/idler arms and tie rods as they are unquestionably the best.
Cognito's 7-9" lift is bullet proof and keeps geometry at stock spec.'s
Talk to Jared at Outlaw Offroad as his personal truck is running a 11" Cognito lift on 40's.

CST is fine but anyone with a 2WD would be doing themselves a disservice NOT to check out the Cognito 4-6" lift and a truck lifted with it at thedieselplace.com
Check out the thread "Cognito 4-6" lift under the suspension section, page 2-3 shows a HD 2WD with 6" lift/ 18" KMC Hoss on Toyo 35"'s.

I have a CST 8" with 37" Toyo Open Country M/T's on 20's and love it. I have 28,000 miles on the lift and it has been great. Still tows the boat like it is not even there.

I have the Duramax LBZ and get right around 350-360 miles on a 26 gallons. Is yours 6.0 gas or diesel? I also have the Bully Dog Programmer and RBP Cat-Back exhaust which I just put on two days ago and it seems to be making a big difference all around.

Remember the CST is adjustable from 6- 8. So you can always change in the future higher or lower.

I have the Cst 11in with 4in spindles on 40s with toyo mt and have had no problems with it at all I did change the Idler and Pitman arms though. I have 4:88 gears and it feels like I can pull a house off its foundation. I also have the edge and juice module and RBP exhaust. The gears made the biggest difference in towing.

Whats up bro. I saw Mike today if you get a chance go by and check my bike out its there for a while. I want the new truck bad but to offset the cost of the new lift I would have to sell my truck for around 40k or come out of pocket and I dont want to do that.

I have the same motor, believe it or not I got 195 miles for my tank, about 90 of those were with the boat, that sucks. I have bought an intake and taken the power program out and running just the tow setting on my module. I have 4.56 gears on order i just need to get my truck back from getting the stereo put in. Hope is soon IM going to Havasu this weekend to play a little and look for houses!

Wow. the 4.56 gears will help. It will put your truck pretty much back to the stock power for pulling. I do not tow my boat much. I have a house 5 miles from the launch ramp, but when I do tow I get around 250-260 on a tank that is if I am cruising while towing.

I just got the gas sucker that always happens to me. Im looking at houses down there this weekend so Ill be close too. Im sure the mileage went up with the intake and running a much lower power setting though. i can get it back tonight so Ill test it then!

I am the editor for a custom truck magazine and have had great luck with all of CST components and kits. I would recommend either a 6/8 or 9/11 CST kit. IMZZ Industries is a shop we use a lot in La Habra, California and they can help you every step of the way. The owner does these trucks all the time and definitely has the recipe down. All I see him using is CST. His number is 562-905-0072
