Ive been scanning alot of old family photos and I was digging through a old crate and found a whole bunch of pictures of some of our family Havasu trips. I just thought you Havasu peeps might enjoy seeing some of them. If I remember correctly these were taken from around 75 to 77 or so. Hope you enjoy.
These are from Crazy Horse....

thanks for the memories, i was in high school then and i think '78 was my first trip to Havasu with a friends family, his dad owned a jet boat of some kind. i have some pics from the late 80's when the wife and i were on our honeymoon there and we didn't even have a boat. :)

Thanks everybody. Yep, those were some good times for sure. Op shorts and Hang Ten board shorts were the ticket and we could ride on the bow and not get put in jail for a year, lol. I think I have some other ones I can put up later of our trips down in Yuma.

Ok, here is the next installment, this is kinda cool. We always had alot of people with us and I guess when the parents got to drinkin up ideas this is what happens. They tried to involve me as one of the toppers because I was only 10 or so and pretty small but I said noooo way. Its hard to believe Kens Miller would pull up six skiers from a dig but it did it, poor little chrome ski tow, lol. The guys (two were my older bros) were on doubles and the girls would drop their singles and crawl up. When it went bad it was bad, lots of bruises happend on the way to this. Im still looking for the picture of this boat with 12 skiers behind it. It started off the same as this but every person had 2 ropes. Once the base six were up the would all drop down to singles and 2 other boats would add skiers as they went around the loop. The base six were pretty beat by the end of that deal. Enjoy.
The start.

Gettin' a little teary eyed here thinking back to approx 1969 when the folks took us kids to Lake Powell for a MONTH! M&D had a '62 Chevy 1/2 ton (235 ci 6 cyl, three on the tree) with a chassis mount ElDorado camper towing a 16' Glasspar powered by a 75 hp Evinrude (anybody remember the Evinrude push-button shifter dealio?). I remember Dad gettin' worried on a hill in Zion Nat'l Park on the way to Powell. I said 'why 'ya worried? Dad replied, "We're in 1st gear.......there ain't another one lower! Dad was teamster and had taken all his vacation for that month long trip. The other thing I remember is that Powell was filling so you pulled the boat onto the sand at night, staked her in place, and the next morning the boat would be 25'-30' away from the beach. I think the Lake was filling 18" vertical a day so a slightly sloped beach meant ya' had to go swimming to get the boat each day. GREAT TIMES!

Really had to look carefully to see if that catamaran sailboat was me and my dad. Spent a lot of time on the river as a kid, both in a jet boat and a Hobie. Great memories. It was a different time for sure.

Ok... now I will really give away my age. I can remember reading in the afternoon paper when the last bucket of concrete was poured for the dam at Lake Powell. One of my friends had a father that was really interested in the Colorado river as his children were growing up. They... RAFTED down the river before Glen Canyon was dammed and hiked the five miles up to Rainbow bridge. Then they went to the ceremony where the first shovel of dirt was moved during the ground breaking for Glen Canyon Dam. He was also there for the ribbon cutting when it was finished years later. The first time I drove to Powell was 1975 and the lake was still filling, 12 years after the dam was completed. I still think it is the most awe inspiring place on the planet.:jawdrop:
