You should wait a little bit and get the new model with the led lights instead of the color wheel. The new model will be a 56" though, but it will accept 1080p thru its HDMI ports.

HL-S5679W available April 1 for $4,199 and here is some more info.
The HL-S5679W replaces the current UHP bulb with a high-powered LED light source. The LED light sourced single chip DLP light engine does not require a color wheel and provides improved longevity. Red, green and blue laser LEDs sequentially fire to produce smooth, stable color. The “LumiLit” light engine ensures a longer lamp life (20,000 hours without brightness degradation) and a shorter turn-on time (7 seconds). The engine is also mercury-free making it more environmentally friendly.

Personally, I think the SXRD by Sony is the tv to beat in the rear projection catagory; However, It is subjective... Recently a buddy of mine bought the Mitsubishi WD62827 because it looked better to HIM.. Either set he chose he saved a grip :D
After the fiasco Toshiba had with their bigscreens a while back, I just don't consider them anymore...
Ask Sigemock what he thinks of the xbr 60" Sony :D

I was have always had Toshibas and they've been good to me. I heard some negative remarks about the Samsung (bearings, lights, etc..) IMO the Samsung has a better picture then the Toshiba but I'm just not sure which way to go. Of course the Sony is hands down the best picture quality but a little pricey.

The question is if the defective rate per unit sold is comperable to other brands.. We sell a GRIP of Samsung; So it's only natural that we have more units in for service... At this moment we don't have any Samsung DLP 1080's in for service... Samsung has been on the forefront in DLP technology...
The Sony may not be as pricey as you think

ROZ- Appreciate your insite here. My 12 year old Mitsu 5075 took a crap a few weeks ago. The guns need to be realigned and the service tech told me it would be about $400-$500. In perfect working order it's not worth that. So I've been looking at RP DLP's too. I'd like to know your preference of my shortlist.
Samsung HL-P5063W
Samsung HL-P5085W
Mitsu WD-52525

The models you list are discontinued.
Mitsubishi has a WD52528, but it's RP LCD
The dlp version is the WD52628 1080p
The Samsung HLR 5078w started in this thread is the 1080P tv
The model below it is the HLR5067w 720p tv
The HLR5087w is the 720p pedestal tv that replaced the HLR5085w..
To me DLP wins over the LCD... and I think the Samsung 1080 hlr5078w looks better, but like I said, it's subjective....
Between the 52528lcd and the 5067w dlp it's a tossup.. I'd have to go look at the tv's again... Again, the picture is subjective..
Both Mfg's make good tv's :)

Damn, aligning the guns is not even that hard or time comsuming, he probably just doesn't want to do it. Since the TV is 12 years old though, I am sure the phosphor on the guns are worn pretty bad though if it wasn't properly calibrated, might as well go with new.
