I have a 2005 2500HD and the rear diff cover seems to be rusting really bad. I called the local dealer and they said it is normal. Normal for what? Maybe Minnesota? But this truck stays between Corona/Chino.
Any thoughts?

See it alot. Sometimes caused by overheating the diff. If the fluids not overheated pungent smell than just scrape off the old undercoating and spray some new on and your good to go.

This is perfect advice.... How many miles are on the vehicle and have you had the diff fluid checked or changed?????

how can you overheat anything on that 91 freeway? It never exceeds 10mph!:D
Have you launched at Elsinore lately????:D :D :D That place has been known to kill a paint job or two!

so have done the rear dif fluid yet though. it is suposed to be done after the first 500-1,000 miles due to the rear end breaking in and debree in the fluid. that will cause a litle bit of overheating as well.
