I have a question for you, why would you buy such a little engine
Also, it is minus the gimbal and drive, plus a few other things

The engine on ebay is a long block. No fuel injection, and none of the other bolt on accessories. Also, are you sure the Merc w/o drive costs 20K. That seems a bit on the high side.

Last I saw, an HO w/o drive was $12K.
With drive and transom / $20K.

Generally you can not buy a genuine Mercruiser engine through GM, so I would question wheather it is actually what he says it is. $7000.00 is an OK deal if it is a Mercruiser long block. This engine on Ebay has NO accessories. And like the others said, for $20,000.00 you get a COMPLETE engine, transom assy, and drive.

Why not buy mine, 496 HO, 119 easy hours in my boat, always serviced and ready to go, complete drop in minus bell housing & coupler which you should already have on your boat. $8000, all exhaust also, clamps and hoses, tailpipes. And its here in Havasu! NSF

Sorry if you missunderstood, im not in the market, I have an 07 Ultra, I was just curious that an ho is so expensive and a 8.1 425hp is so cheap.

This question was answered in Hot Boat Magazine a few months back. There are many differences between a marine engine and a regular.

The ad says it is a marine engine and will replace a HO.
