A man, 19, involved in a minor freeway accident was killed Sunday when he jumped from his disabled car to avoid getting hit by another car and slipped off an overpass, according to the California Highway Patrol.
David Hairson III of Valencia and another man, 49, from Reseda were involved in an accident in the northbound lanes of the Golden State (5) Freeway, south of Calgrove Boulevard, according to CHP Officer J. Johnson.
Following the accident, both men were in their disabled vehicles when Phoebe Wong, 55, of Valencia, unable to see Hairson's sideways vehicle, sped towards it.
To avoid getting struck, Hairson jumped onto the Gavin Canyon Road overpass and fell onto the Old Road before Wong hit his car, Johnson said.
His body was found by CHP officers about 15 minutes later, he said.
Lydia Cardona, 47, of Reseda, a passenger in the 49-year-old man's car, suffered minor injuries in the initial collision, he said.
