Do you like it. Would you jump ship from Havasu to do the ocean thing?
I know maintenance is ALOT. But it is the cheapest "beach house" you could ever get.
Thoughts? Opinions?
The ones at the boat show got my mind wandering....

You mean like fully loaded blinged out F32...or...50' Yacht for the same price? :D

Brand new 40' with 2 beds/2bath for about the same price. My wife liked!

I honestly had more fun touring the yachts than checking out the powerboats. That 45' Formula is a nice ride. Although it was around 750k. :)
It did have auto pilot and you could parallel park though without bow thrusters. :D

Chris,
Your looking at about 5k to ship to havasu. I shipped one to phx for about that. With the gas motor they suck w/twin D's they run great. Maint. isnt that bad even for a Bayliner. (oops did they forget to tell you that little bit) We thought about one when I was selling them but then woke up. twin bow thrusters are fun to dock.

That's one thing where nobody's opinion matters but your own. You have to try it out and decide what you like best. I personally would love to rent one (I don't know if you can) and play around for a weekend, go up or down the coast, fish and stuff but as far as an all the time thing I want an Ultra to drop the hammer, or cruise the desert, go to the sandbars, be in the heat and just drop in the water to cool off etc. If you really want the best of both worlds then maybe a houseboat and tow your speedboat behind.

My boss owns this one. Annual maintanence and crew runs 400K a year.
My wife had the same idea a few years ago while at the Long Beach boat show. I told her to go pick one out and she came back and said she found one she liked. 65' Hatteras with a price tabe of 2.3 mill. She saw the price and said never mind.

Voodooman, yes you can rent them, we did so last summer out of Newport Beach. One of the best family days in 40 years of boating. Had to use their captain however, but no big deal. Sure beats full time ownership if you only want to use Lake Pacific a few times a year...

I have a new '06 Silverton 36 Convertible. Twin 8.1 liter 496 cu. in. GM blocks marinized by Crusader. Generator, air, two fridges, two tvs everything. Spend every Fri. and Sat. night on her. Used to play with the go-fasts but I have kids aged 8 and 12 now and this is exactly what we needed.
This model can be bought with gas engines and all options for $230k.

Any idea on cost? I want to do a houseboat too but that needs to be at least a week. I'm thinking Lake Pacifica would be fun for an extended weekend especially since it only takes 40 minutes to get there.

I would never take one of those to Havasu...
I want it for Channel Islands Marina. Only 45 minutes from my house (much better drive than Havasu) and a fraction of the cost to slip compared to places like Newport.
The Meridian is built by Brunswick, and has a few leftover ideas from the old Bayliner line, but it is a totally new boat and MUCH nicer inside. They are a great boat for the money. I have done a little homework on them. Not a Carver, no! But I found many of the newer floorplans and option alot better than what I saw on the Carver.
I do really like the new Carver 43MY. (49'). But I don't have 700K.

We've got a 44' Sunseeker that's on Lake Mead and I have to say for that lake, it's the perfect size. If we went by way of the ocean, we both feel it would be a bit too small...but the wallet doesn't have what we need to get there...but it's been an enjoyment.
Hey, Burt & Nancy! We still want to know about that trip on the big Sunseeker...send us the info! :D

Chris,
If you are loking at 40', get a trailer and keep it on the trailer at the marina if possible and just call ahead for them to launch the boat. It will save you a TON of money on the maintenance and the stoage will be less than a slip, even if you launch it every weekend.
Doing this will keep you from having to get the bottom repainted as often, the drives will stay cleaner and the boat will stay in better shape overall. Now if they had dry storage that was covered, score.

I had a Sea Ray 370 Sundancer. Great boat when the kids were babies but they got bored when they got older. Gas engines are a stretch on anything over 40 feet BUT the diesel option is usually $70,000 + and diesel fuel is hard to find on some inland / landlocked lakes. Cruisers are awesome. Pull up to one of those famous raft up parties ad the girls will flock to your boat for 2 reasons.
1. It has 2 bathrooms :D
2. Even though is costs less than a DCB F26 the ladies will think your Donald Trump :D :D :D

Our little condo on the water. We can party with crowds or find a quite cove and have a nice quiet time together. If you shop around and aren't in a hurry, you can find a deal. We got this for 1/2 the going rate via couple going through a divorce. You asked for thoughts.
1) A condo/home might appreciate. A "yacht" WILL depreciate.
2) No lawns to mow :)
3) Our "neighbors" at the marina are some of the best people out there.
4) If your too drunk to drive, just drop anchor, fire up the grill, eat, have a hot shower, and sleep in air condition!
5) For the times you want to go fast, have a small go fast.

Ok yes they are by brunswick a few of them are still the same design rember RRX that is the company I started at an I have driven everyone of the Meridians the best 3 for the money are the 459, 411 and the new 391. Dont go any smaller the others are ok but after making the trip from new port to SD those 3 are the ones that did the best. There is alot of features that are good for a yacht at that cost just dont ever buy one with a gas motor or you can flush that money down the drain.

Trust me spend the $ on the cockpit model. It is the same but you have more room for diving, fishing, entertaining, dingy work and it is fun to ride at sea level too. I always made my wife or friends drive and I would sit back there and have cocktails. It basically is a storage place for everyones junk too. They all bring big old bags and back packs. I left them all there and the tons of ice too. There is tons of storage in the hatches too. The fishing poles, liferafts, pumps and crap fit in there perfectly next to the huge geneator upgrade which is a must too.

Chris the 368 is great but not for a family boat maybe you and a few strippers but not the family. The transom on it is a pain in the butt, You have to carry the supplies up the steps and then down in the boat. Dont waste the money on a lower helm besides they tend not to order them for socal with lower helm. But for all around room you still cant beat the 411 or 459. depends if you want aft berth or not. They are al coming with the new cominrails as power.

The 200 million dollar boat you speak of is the blue mega yacht I posted photos of. It runs with a 60 person crew which includes a few former Navy Seals. This yacht has two helicopters, seven boats, a 10 man submarine that can sleep up to eight people for up to two weeks underwater and a remote controlled vehicle for crawling on the Ocean floor. The annual budget to keep this yacht running and the crew paid is only $20 million. This boat is certainly a work of art...
