We are going on our first cruise to Mexico on Carnival (weekend cruise). We have never been on a cruise, or to Mexico.
Is there a way to "sneak" alcohol on board without getting caught?
Any Ensenada tips? We are going to the Papas and Beer beach club in Rosarito for most of the day, then back to Ensenada. Can I get good cigars in Ensenada?
We would appreciate any tips or advice!

I don't think that they checked our bags when we went on our cruise... If they did, they would have found several bottles of "Fiji" water... those are the perfect size to hold 1 bottle of Absolut each. Then we just bought two "soda cards" and mixed drinks in our room. I've heard of people putting it in mouthwash bottles as well, but I wouldn't want to risk drinking minty Jack Daniels:eek:

i just came off a cruise last week. i took alcohol on in a suitcase and checked at the peir and they brought it right up to our room for us. they just scan it. if they do find it i think all they will do is hold it till you get back.

Ensenada is a major dump, it's like Tiajuana with an ocean. Did that trip a couple of years ago, was a great dissapointment. Have cruised on Royal Carribbean several times, and have only good things to say about that cruise line. Besides that, right now I'd rather vacation in the arctic, than give those border hopping vermin a penny of mine.

They check your carry on baggage. Wrap up the bottles and put them in your check baggage. They may go through airport style scanners but their looking for other stuff. Bags are never manually checked without you present. If your really worried put it in water bottles so it looks like water. Then you don't even have to get soda cards for mixers. Carry on a case of soda. They don't care about that. I did it. There are laws about alcohol and they of course want to make that extra money. Buy one drink so you have a Carnival labeled Hurricane glass and then you can mix and then walk around with a glass they think you got from the bar.

I did this cruise about 2 years ago. Its cools, just dont get really wasted and lose all your money at the casino that they have. The clubs are nice except that I got really sick the last night on the ship since we were hanging out with some hot chicks at the club and they were giving us free drinks that some loser guys were buying them. To make a long story short, I think someone put a roofy in one of those drinks thinking that the chicks were going to drink them...
Have fun

Take all the booze you want, and if you don't consume it, bring it home with you. As someone said above, some of the ports suck big time. Don't get off the boat until Cabo San Lucas...

Brew,
We went on Windstar, the best by far in my book. We've been on one of their cruises 6 times and one on Seabourn (too stuffy). Winstar has a ski boat that backs out the back of the ship and only has 148 to 300 people depending on which ship you take. The trip to Tahiti took us to several islands including Bora Bora, Moorea and a few others I can't remember. My favorite cruise was to Costa Rica with them though. Also, since it's a small boat you port in private coves not in busy ports with huge ships. Check out Windstar.com

we did this same cruise... got off and went to Papas and Beer for about 5 hours. Plan on drinking a shit load and eating pizza late night like boatnam said..... it is pretty fun for the price I must say.
Now when you get back to home port getting of the ship sucks ass, even worse when you are ****en hung over...

One of the comedians performing on the ship said, "Taking a Cruise Ship to Ensenada is like driving a Limousine to the Dump".
We've been a few times in the last couple of years. Each time we carried on a few "Water Bottles" full of Malibu and Jack Daniels. Each time we have been fine.
When you're there, just take a stroll to Papas and Beer, and don't worry about anything else. It's not that great of a town, and Papas and Beer is the only thing worth doing.
Have a Fun Trip! :)

You can do the alcohol no problem. Just make sure they are in plastic bottles so if your luggage gets jarred hard it doesn't break.
Cigars is a bit more of a chore in my opinion. You can do it, just be careful. Buy your cigars from a reputable seller (a store) and they should know what to do. I bought a whole case last time and this is what we did. Buy the case and have all the bands removed from the cigars. Have the seller provide you with a case (wooden retail case) that is legal to own in the USA. Take all the bands with you and place them in you carry on luggage. Put the cigars in your luggage. This way all you have in your possesion is a bunch of cigar bands and in your luggage a bunch of legal no name cigars. It worked for me. Can't say it will work for everyone.
DO YOU FEEL LUCKY?
;)

Thanks for the tips! We were thinking about a couple bottles of Goose repackaged in Aquafina bottles. I was thinking of putting them in the carry-on bags. Do you think it is safer in the checked luggage?
We already got the Papas and Beer beach party excursion in Rosarito. Has anyone ever done this?

As you know we've done two cruises now. Never stopped at Ensenado though. All the advice about booze in the water bottles is good. Thats what I have done both times, and mixed it right on the pool deck in front of them. They know what you are up to, but don't say anything.
I would put it in my checked bag, not the carry on.
Have fun!

Rosarito is the city......
And, why would you port in ensenada and go to rosarito? thats like 50 miles away.....theres plenty of places to party in ensenada rather than pay a cab or shuttle $100 for the ride to Rosarito and back.

Did you guys take wine too? I was thinking about taking a couple bottles of wine too for dinner. Probably should bag it and bubble wrap.
It sounds 50/50 whether we should put the water bottles in checked or carry on.

We can't wait either! Don't be jealous of the cruise... there is still space left - only about 280 per person!
I think we will put the trailer on the site in early April and leave it through November. We are also looking to buy a second home out there. Just waiting for the right one.

It's actually a tour through Carnival. A tour bus takes you to the beach party where you spend the day.

Another question if anyone can help us. I have never been to Mexico, so forgive me if these are dumb questions:
Mrs. Koko wants to do some shopping in Mexico. Is there shopping near the Papas and Beer beach club in Rosarito? We will be there all day, so she wanted to do some shopping.
