I don't care what anyone says, it is fun when its like that. I have had some of the best times of my life hanging at the Sandbar when it used to be crazy like that.
Mind you, we go to Lake Mead 1-3 times a week, and even if there is 5000 boats there, it still looks like a ghost town. :)

since I've never been there...I have a couple dumb questions. 1. you must have to get there early in the morning to get your boat in that center cove area...but how do you get back out? I assume that you have to walk the boat out. is that it? and 2. are all those boats anchored? do you have to stay with your boat all day to make sure it doesn't rub and bump up against others?
here's another Havasu related question...
when I go there at the end of May we want to hang in the Channel a day. or at least part of a day. Do we have to get there at the azz crack of dawn to get a spot?

sandbar: you don't need to be there super early... but things start popping around 11 or so. but the big sandbar (the one pictured) is heavily regulated now... but the small sandbar ...pretty much same crowd applies. and yeah unless you wait til it clears up you'll have to walk the boat out. anchor front and back and put your bumpers out to protect the gel.
channel: get there early... like really early!! we've launched the boat super early like 6am and went back to the house to get more sleep, just to get a spot.... or get lucky! but that's tough with a big boat... unless you want to be towards the ends.

Oh and dont leave the boat overnight at the chanel... you'll get there next morning with a nice big ticket :)

thanks for the info. we won't leave the boat in the channel. I'd be too afraid of it not being there in the morning when we come back. We're staying at the London Bridge Resort and will keep it in a slip there.

The London Bridge Resort is in the channel. The beach is about 100' from the hotel.:)

I don't think the Sandbar gets busy enough now to really need to put bumpers out. It is closed on the big weekends and it is too shallow to really get a bigger boat in the middle..... OH, and its covered in reeds and clams...:D
