This is either number 15 or 16....:D
250cc Can-am powered drag bike. I had to take the wheelie bars off to fit into the living room. They are on my loveseat. The bike is about a 1974. Engine is made in Austria by Rotax. It has magnesium engine cases, Bing carb, Betor triple trees and KYB forks, Magura controls, RW front hub and front brake, Akront wheels (made in Spain). Unsure about the manufacturer of the underbelly expansion chamber, tank, or seat/cowl. I started it in the house (first kick!!!), and spent the next 1/2 hr washing the wall behind it from the 2-stroke oil spray out the exhaust.

I bought it from the owner of a Bumper-to-Bumper shop in a small town. He had recieved it on a bad debt from a customer. I offered him $1000 cash (about $800 US) and it was mine :D .

I just moved into a house a couple months ago. I had no furniture, so I got this from my grandma. And well... it saved me enough money to buy this bike instead of a nicer loveseat.

This is not it's permanent place. There is just a ton of snow in the back alley and I did feel like cleaning it out before unloading it. It was easier just to back the truck up to the front step and roll it out that way.b And the bike was clean, and does drip, so I figured why not... just through some flyers under the stand to prevent scratching the hardwood.

Yessir... back when bikes had a whopping 3" of travel...:D

SnoopJonnyJon

Hey, to put the wheelie bars on you need to mount a solid link in place of the shocks.... try 0 travel:D ... oh, and about 1/2 inch of seat foam.

All of my stuff is old junk, and I've only got a few pictures of a few of em. The kawasaki is a 1975 F9 Bighorn, has about 2500 miles on it. The 67 BSA Victor Roadster is currently torn apart being restored, but these pics are of it before. And then the 74 husky 125... it's kinda rough, but is a fun bike. Unfortunately, I don't have pictures of any of my other junk.

Yep, 1950 Studebaker 2R5. The old man and I are going to hot rod that over the next few years. Although the paint has washed off it, and it "looks" rusty, there is very little rot. The old truck is solid as a rock. The only other pre-1980 Jap bike I have is a 77 Suzuki DR370. I really dig the off-brands. I've got a couple mid 50's CZ Jawa 125s, and a 70's Husky 250.

In 79 was that a V-twin like a Virago, or a parallel like an XS?

I love those old bikes!! I've got a buddy in Havi that races a vintage speedway class on an old Bultaco. Its almost as cherry as yours.....for now.

I would love to have a Bultaco. I would love to find a Bultaco, Ossa, Rickman, Greeves, Hodaka, Maico, or another other oddball bike.
I just found another neat bike in Saskatoon I may have to pursue. Mid 50's Sears Allstate with 80 (yes 80) original miles on it. It seems it is the Saskatoon thing to keep motorcycles in your living room:) . Another funny thing is that it is classified under "home and garden".

I grew up on the pegs of an 86 Honda XL100S. My sister and I both had identical ones. I put 24,000 miles on mine, hers has about 800. Luckily we still have both... that way I don't need to restore my old turd; her's is still perfect.

I learned to ride when I was 6 on a homemade bike. Dad took an old BMX bike and mount a hinged plate onto the seat mount. On the top of the plate went a 1950's era 2 stroke engine and on the underside there were a couple pillow block bearings with a shaft through them. Then ran a short belt to it. The shaft was wrapped in rubber, and it just rested on the top of the rear tire. The engine was just full throttle all the time, but the brakes were strong enough to just make it slip. To start it, I would push it to the top of a hill and just start riding it down with the engine slipping, then once I got up some speed I would sit on the engine forcing it into rear tire making it turn over. Also, since the engine had an rpm governor, if I put more load on the engine it made more power... so I always sat on the engine to make it bark. The fuel tank was vented and it splashed on my butt, so I was always soaked in premix. My mom felt this was dangerous, so she made dad buy me a "real" motorcycle (the XL100s).
Some friends were just over here and wanted to hear it run, so I backed the bike onto the front step and ran it. It started first kick again!!!

My dad owned a Hodaka motorcycle shop in the 70's. It was called Alley Offroad Cycle in Yorba Linda. He bought the franchise 2 or 3 years before Hodaka went belly up.
I know where you can find a Combat Wombat....but it needs work. In fact, the guy also has a Super Rat. My dad converted a Combat Wombat to street at one point. My brother held the #1 Amateur plate in desert racing and did it on a combat wombat. He raced for the Catus Cats club. I think Hodaka's biggest claim to fame is the first aluminum rear swing arm.

My first bike was a 1974 YZ 80 that my dad bought from Mickey Diamond. Mickey was my next door neighbor. I was 8 years old. Mickey raced hill climbs when he was 8 years old. The bike had a down pipe on it when we got it which was the trick setup for hill climbing . My dad put a "get kit" on my yz 80 and it was faster than the Super Rat (90cc) and almost as fast as the Combat Wombat.

Wow, that is a nicely done bike.
If you want to find more Hodaka pictures, and ones for sale there are a ton on http://www.strictlyhodaka.com/ . I really shouldn't be looking at any more bikes. I try to limit myself to 1 or 2 a year... and I just picked up an 85 KX250 a couple months ago and now this Can-Am. I'm never really searching out a specific bike, i just always check the local ads and buy anything that appeals to me.

Yeah, there is a ton of old iron around here and it's reasonably priced. When I was in high school (like 5-6 years ago) there was a good original rust free LS6 Chevelle selling for $8,000. A neighbor down the road had a mint 67 Shelby GT500 he sold for $15000. Two years ago there was an auction sale where the guy had four 64 409 Impalas, a couple of them rags. Even just this fall a neighbor GAVE me a 37 Ford truck if I was willing to move it out of his trees. Model T's and A's in every farmyard. And no vehicle inspections as long as it wasn't registered in another province even on homebuilt cars. I love it here.:D
I've actually been thinking I could try licensing the can am if I could figure out a way to mount lights and a horn cleanly. I don't want to hack anything up to do it. That thing would be fun on the street.

I spent much of the spring working down in Nebraska, but I am finally back home and took the old Can Am for a ride. Here's a video of the first ride. It pulled alright at low rpms, but bogged up top. I think I better clean the carb, and maybe start running 110 gas.
