It's not just the change in prices either. Everything has changed since I was a kid. There is NO WHERE for kids to ride their bikes anymore. There is no local hang out. You can't trust your kids to run to the park for a while. I remember as a kid in the summer I'd get up meet with my buds and disappear. Come back in time to go to the swimming pool. Get back and go home for dinner. My parents saw me about 1 hour out of the day. Now I don't know one parent who would allow their kids to run free like that, including myself.

There was this place called jackrabbit, it was an old landfill. It was our own little Glamis if you will. Rode our bikes in there for hours. Ask J, he remembers that place by the old South Bay 6 drive in.

I remember being in highschool...96-00 and everyone wanted a Z71 x-cab on 35's because that was just big pimpin... now if you dont have a crew cab duramax on 22's and 28's with 10 screens... you aint keeping up with the jones.
or when you might see 5-6 pushers and long travel rails at glamis, and now gecko road is flooded with them all the way through the loop.
yep... a 21' open bow was the shit!! if you had anything nearing a 26' you were a baller!
no seatbelt law
no whips required on bikes in the dunes
could ride in the bed of trucks in glamis
wouldn't get popped for a dui in glamis unless you had rolled your truck and it caught fire... now they just pull you over, unless they already have someone else pulled over.

Got all my 501's from a place in North Long Beach called, The Rag Factory", they sold seconds. It was out by Shady Acres. I worked in a gas station when premium hit 50 cents a gallon at our full-serve premium pump in the summer of 1975. I think I was making $2.25 an hour.
I remember paying $1800.00 for a 5 year old 1970 1/2 Z-28.
My payments were $72.55 per month, my insurance was $33.00 a month.
I remember when Tacos et. al were 15 cents at Taco Bell.
I remember the first time smelled a car that had the Gen 1 cat. converter on it. Nasty rotten egg smell.
I rmember when the cops closed down Whittier Blvd. They blocked all the left turn lanes, and ended cruising there. It was a major bummer.
My son couldn't believe it the first time he watched that old movie, "Dazed and Confused"...He asked if I remembered things ever being like that and I said, "Damn right, boy..I was there!"

when Thrifty's ice cream was $0.05 a single cone and $0.12 for a tripple cone and candy bars were $0.10...
Memories. I remember how the lady would cram the tool into the ice cream, after she took it out of the messy water that seemed to only recirculate the same melted ice cream and water solution. ;)

Sick isn't it Biglue.
Mom used to throw a 5 bill daily.
bus ride to Newport
surf all day
perrys pizza slices and a coke
Tigermilk bar
bus ride back to La Habra and thumb it over the hill to Rowland heights.
Mom "how was your day Dave?"
Me " just like yesterday, can I do it again tomorrow?"
I wish everybody had parents like mine!
