Anyone get the latest update from Trident? ...good news on the new drive options, prices options, etc... Definately a strong contender vs others out there....
Times, they are a changinÂ’
Five years ago, we designed and built the Revolution to re-define its genre. It has done that. We designed it to re-set performance benchmarks for the entire industry. It has done that. We designed it to be a boat that accommodated families as well as a VIP party. It does all of that and way more.
As we have come to realize, today might not be the right time to bring only a boat like this to market. With the downward turn in the Southern California housing market having ripple effects throughout most luxury industries, we (as with all boat builders) are having a tough time reaching our sales goals for the first quarter. We have heard over and over that the boat is everything people have ever wanted, but they just canÂ’t swing the $150,000 and up price of admission.
The good news about building something that outdistances the competition in nearly every category is that it is really, really easy to back out some of the non-essential standard features that came with every boat and re-issue it in a more “base level” configuration. We are the only boat builder to include all of our safety, utility, luxury and convenience features as standard equipment, and while we still believe strongly that anyone to whom price is not an object will want them, we now realize that there is a large number of our prospective owners who are being denied the opportunity to experience the best that pleasure boating has to offer due to our inflexibility. We are going to change that.
Then there are the “magic numbers” so significant in the industry. Some of them are speed ratings, normally broken out at 70, 80, 90 and the big bill at 100. Going 69.9 is never as good as going 70, but once you hit it, you get 80 fever. Another big one is $100,000. People can get their arms easily wrapped around a $98,000 boat, but have a difficult time even considering a far superior product at $105,000.
The last big revelation was realized recently when we put the first outdrive version on the water. Not only is it the highest performing deck boat with 550 horsepower, but it is faster, more responsive and better handling than most purpose-built high performance ”racing” boats with the same power. We knew as soon as we started running in the 90’s with Ilmor’s base model MV-10 550 Viper engine that we could afford to lose a ton of power and still outperform everything in the class, saving significant cost while at the same time losing quite a bit of insurance expense for our buyers. Not everyone needs to go 90+ mph in a deckboat, as I have been reminded on multiple occasions.
There came a point where we had to question how much more advanced, how much more refined and how much more complete we had to be to still dominate the genre. We sharpened our pencils, whittled down costs in areas that didnÂ’t affect the quality, strength or value of the boat and focused on the essentials of what makes a Trident. In essence, we pared down the features, but none of the build.
With all of this in mind, we are proud to release two models. First, is the “new” Revolution at $99,300. And second is the premium model titled the Revolution “Ibiza” at $163,500. The name “Ibiza” was chosen in homage to the hardest partying, most exclusive island resort on the planet… Ibiza, Spain. The entire focus of the island, located in the Balearic region of the Mediterranean is fun. The nightclubs are built to house up to 10,000 people each and collectively have influenced modern dance and electronic music worldwide for years. During the summer, it is a non-stop party, running deep into the nights and everyone is essentially searching for sunrise. We can relate. The new “Ibiza” model reflects all of this, and will be our premium trim level.
Never before have such high quality boats been offered for anywhere near these prices. Both models still retain the resin infusion build method, and as such the monster performance gain that losing 2,000 pounds of dead weight will get you. They both share the 100% vinyl-ester infusion resin, and the CoreCell linear foam core. There still isn’t a single ounce of wood in the boat. In all honesty, by losing features, the standard Revolution when equipped with an Ilmor engine loses a further 500+ pounds, putting the boat into the featherweight sub 3,000# mark fully rigged. With similarly sized engines, the standard Revolution will actually be faster than the full-tilt boogie “Ibiza” model!
The new Revolution will come with a 496 Mag/Bravo 1 engine and drive package standard, while the Revolution “Ibiza” will come standard with an Ilmor MV-10 550 Viper engine coupled to the Teague Platinum XR drive package.
