here is where I am.... thanks to Scott at Precision in LHC! Exterior and engine work are done.

Interior is being done... it will be lighter sand color, tuck and roll, with similar stripes to keep old school look but engine cover will go all the way across.
Small things after that... like new prop, etc... will have the interior pics when done...
Trailer is being painted first of next month. I just redid the bunks myself.. all new... I will rewire the trailer myself with LED and repack all bearings and go through the brake system then too, although it does seem to be working well.
Anyone have baby moon covers? :) thanks!

Ours is a 20SS also. "sport skiier" We will have to meet up sometime and take a pic of our boats together. It turned out beautiful. I like the interior configuration. Jeff has been wanting to put a bench seat in it to increase storage space under the hatch, but I didn't want to lose seating. What you have done looks like a good compromise. Sigh . . . maybe next winter. :)

on my badge it says ss-20.5 measures 20'6". but also says the ss is for super sport... i thought about og style interior but i had to stick to the horseshoe as i have a 3rd fuel tank on the r side... im glad i went with new style. really clean inside. the all white is kind of a pain though.

I think Hallett is having a regatta this year. It would be cool to see a bunch of old SS's there. I have a '78 v drive SS. I tried to put a picture of it up but it's apparently in the wrong format.

The problem with the regatta is that it is set up for the new big boats. It's on Mead in Henderson. We went one year and got the crap beat out of us. The poker run runs all over the lake. The all you can eat food and open bar are great, though. Maybe if there were a bunch of old skool boats, it would be better.

Hallett changed the style back in '88 & '89 when the introduced the 210, which is still in production today.
1986 was the last year they offered the 23' Day Cruiser, which has the same lines as the 20SS.

Hmmm yea.. then we can forget the poker run and just eat and drink..lol..
otherwise.. if the poker run is really early it won't be bad.. other than the cost of the gas..lol... if it slips much past noon.. the lake will be choppy... assuming a windless day. When I was a kid we had nothing less than a 23 on that lake. BUT I am older and wiser than my dad..lol... so now I have a 21... okay NOT... but I could see the beauty through the ugly so I decided to go shorter anyway...

1972 to 1976 Hallett had the 21' Day Cruiser - the model that BeerJet & 72Hallett own.
1976 20ss Premieres (mid '76) - boat doesn't go into production untill '77.
1981 20ss is now also avaible as an Open Bow Rider.
1987 21' Vector is Introdced - Still in production.
1988 20ss Final year - 210 Premiered.
1989 210 replaces 20ss - Still in production.
So a mini regatta with only Hallett 20ss from 1977 to 1988 - sounds fun.

An oldschool Hallett regatta sounds good. If it's 23' and smaller I could bring my 20'er and my dad could bring his 64' 18'er with a 427 Holman Moody sideoiler.

1435 Countryshire off Industrial, behind the mitsubishi dealer...928-505-3206
every boat is different.. and depends what you want done... the tuck and roll was a little more expensive.. as was creating the interior... but less than $5000.00 because they could use some stuff over... took about 7 business days... BUT if you have the smooth newer type interior.. it takes considerable less time.

So lets say if there was an early Hallett get together say late summer Maybe at the Blue water,(Parker) or Avi (Laughlin) What kinda showing would we have and would a place like that we could toss back a beer and admire old boats work?
Not saying I'm organizing any kind of regatta or event. Just wondering if some one where to try that, what kind of size group we could expect?
What would be a good cut off date? Say 1986? and any thing under 23 foot?
If it where my choice I'd say I like the idea of cruising my boat around Parker and meeting up for a cold beer at that little bar on the point next to the Blue water Casino, so I don't have to drink and drive, Heck I might even drop an anchor over at the shallow spot across from the Blue water, Being its on the rez I might not be so worried that we where an organized group if some one came looking for a permit and insurance. After all if a bunch of simular people gathered it might spook the fuzz?
Maybe Daddy Mac has an idea?

Haven't got her wet yet. That is an old picture before Jeff my buddy the old owner bought his Howard. The Hallett is going into the shop to get some fiberglass work done first then we need to find a cheap BBC. She should be ready to see the water by mid summer.

I love this idea! I am looking for an excuse to go to Parker... I was thinking... late August... might be a good time... or early September... hmmm
88' and older 23' and smaller... think those would be good guidlines...
for a non-get together... just few friends happen to be at the same place at the same time....

Both of your boats looked great at the dam run! Good work!
I had an 89 Sport Skier and it was just like an 88 SS that I saw at Topock 2 years ago. I know it is a different style but I have only seen mine and one other. I didn't know yours was also a SS when I saw it at the Dam Run. I still miss my old boat.......sometimes:D we had 3 good years running Havasu with it, although it was a bit rough at times.:D

The differences between the 20’ and the 23’ are very different yet very minimal at the same time. Obviously there is a 3’ difference; however interior room in the cockpit is about the same. Yes the 23 is a bit bigger, but not my as much as you’d think
The 20 is good in any configuration Jet, V, Drive, or Stern Drive.
The 23 sucks as a jet, no pun intended, Hallett designed it with stern drive power in mind, or at least that’s what I was told. The Jet driven 23’s porpoise in all water conditions, to correct this the engines need to have high horse power in addition to, extended pump ride plates, nozzle trim systems (Place Diverters or Jet-O-Vators), and in some cases Droop Snoots.
The 23’ in Stern Drive or V-drive configuration provides the necessary drag, which the jet doesn’t provide, eliminating a great deal of the proposing (all boats porpoise a little).
Currently there are 3 23’ for sale. Personally, no offence to the owners, but I wouldn’t buy anyone of them.
1977 Hallett 23' Jet (http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/5/5/90325655.htm) A tad high on the price for a jet.
1978 Hallett 23' Jet (http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/4/9/90147749.htm) The boat didnt cost this much new in '78 + it's a jet
1980 Hallett 23' I/O (http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/0/3/90326203.htm) Priced too high for an OMC outdrive
Just my $.02

i bought this boat 6 weeks ago, and yes it was a tad high for several reasons, so he did come down on the price. but the boat satisfied what i was after - big, bbc/berk jg, and a project. i've done several things to satisfy myself with respect to reliability, and since we've been out with it 8 times, so far we are happy with it.

Yes the 23 is a bit bigger, but not my as much as you’d think ??? the 23 is huge compared to a 20. it -looks- like a 21, but deck is way longer and it has a lot more storage.
The 20 is good in any configuration Jet, V, Drive, or Stern Drive..
The 23 sucks as a jet, no pun intended, Hallett designed it with stern drive power in mind, or at least that’s what I was told. . that's your opinion. so far, we're pleased with it, although i have several more things on the to-do list.

that's your opinion too, and not accurate to what i've found. but i've been in 20 and 21 jet driven halletts that also porpoised until things were done to address the porpoise. this boat porpoises at 30, but stops at 33. at 40, it just cruises. i know what to do about it, and will address it this winter.
The 23’ in Stern Drive or V-drive configuration provides the necessary drag, which the jet doesn’t provide, eliminating a great deal of the proposing (all boats porpoise a little). .
it has more to do with thrust point than drag.
