Are you talking about the intersection just off the 10 where the gas station is? If so can you immagine the back up on a holliday weekend??

If that's where its at........how lame. Tons of cross traffic there:rolleyes:
Now, if he's talking the 62/177 intersection at the top then it makes some sense to have one, but a warning would be nice.

You crest that hill at 75 MPH and you are on the abs hard to not drive thru it...
A warning should be MANDATORY.....
Most people are travelling alot faster than that

It'll back up there and clutches will burn waiting on the hill, not to mention the extra fuel that gets wasted.

There are going to be some accidents there. I see people running off into the desert to keep from rear ending the stopped cars. A warning sign is really necessary!

There are flashing lites on top of the stop signs. No warning prior to the hill. Last night Mrs. Sig said better slow down there are flashing lights ahead. For the life of me I could not see it until I was on top of it and had to through the binders on.
It only happens once, I will be looking for it next time. Sign was not there two weeks ago.

Accident waiting to happen without warning signs. I towed a boat to CA Monday night and no sign. Driving back empty Monday afternoon and found out how well the anti locks work on an F350. Not cool with no warning. I think the sign will save alot of lives in the long term... but not having a "Stop sign ahead" warning with flashing lights is going to be the cause of someones life coming to a sudden unexpected stop!

phebus
03-24-2007, 10:07 AM
We went to Cali on Thursday, and we saw the warning sign that said stop ahead. Coming home last night in the dark, we didn't see a warning sign, but the flashing red light on the sign was visible from a ways out.
I don't think it's a problem, just something new, and most people don't like change.

Bad Puddy Tat
03-24-2007, 10:12 AM
Something must have changed since Wednesday??
I had to go to Palm Springs on Wednesday. They had a huge yellow warning sign each way on rice road that said Stop 1/2 mile ahead. The stop signs also had flashing red lights in each direction.
I do agree that they should have put some flashing lights on the warning signs.

Yes towing speed is 55MPH
not towing is 65MPH...
I am be a dumb cop boater, But your ability to follow and comprehend conversation, is becoming clearly apparent that ADD, Terets and a few other factors are working very strongly against your ability to form reasonable common thoughts.
Let me help ya out here, The last time I towed my boat to the river was in late 02 maybe early 03, that is the year 2002/2003.....

So let me get this strait...
You make a post saying some one should lose thier job... yet in every post I have made making the same statement you have called me a idoit...( can you say hypocrite)
There must have been a good reason for caltrans to put a stop sign there. Why don't you get up off your ass and make phone call. Find out why they did it. I guess you would just rather bitch about it on the internet then actually get up off your fat desk riding ass and doing something about it.
If your speeding, your breaking the law...you of all people should know that.
I do know what critcal speed means... it this case it means the speed at which you can no longer read the road signs. All that is mute as still disreguard them when ever it pleases you.
Frankly, you personify everything that is worng with what a professional law enforcement officer should be.

not towing is 65MPH...
I know this is a very big surprise to you, PEOPLE DONT AWAYS TOW THEIR BOATS TO THE RIVER. Who would have thought that one ....
...couldn't resist:)

Again you just proved my point, you have no clue what you are talking about...
Thanks for confirming this AGAIN...
What do you do for a living ...
Because I am pretty sure I will have no clue..
But Im gonna start telling you how to do your job, I mean Hell, im a expert, because in some way, shape, or form, I pay your salary, AND NO YOU CANT HAVE A RAISE

I've got news for you... no one has a job where some one does not tell them how to do it. Your in public survice... every one is your boss, get use to it. It does not matter what you do, you will always have a "custmer".
If you really don't think I have a right to tell you what to do...
give me the name of the agency you work for and your badge number... I would love to talk too your boss about that.

Didn't a CHP Agent die there a few years ago?
It was not a few, Just shy of ten years come JUNE 1ST.
Also Stucky was killed on this road last year. Most dont know him or ever heard of him. He was changing his trailer tire when an OLD man plowed into his trailer. He was with the Housing Authority and then Placentcia PD. A great human being
I slow at both spots and reflect.

we went by that spot about 30 minutes before the accident.I still hold my breath...Glad for the sign, coming from the high desert i have to stop anyways. And that is about 30 times a year.
We have driven to the river at 100mph and also 60 mph.Seems like it still takes the same amount of time.Think we will just drive slower and stay longer.

Holy crap! Klr and I had some debate on public service a while back, but it was just in fun. Man, you sound like a stressed out case on public employees! Have a prozac and calm down about public service, cops, fireman and just have some fun boating (you may want to think a little more on spelling too)!
By the way, Klr, you did miss it Friday. I went out and didn't want to believe the sign, but it told the truth. This should be real interesting coming up! :D

The Memorial sign naming that stretch of 62 is just east of the stop sign, as is a small cross with flowers.
If my memory serves me correct, it was some Memorial Weekend partiers returning home that crossed the line and hit Muehlhausen over the blind rise. Worse is I believe those people were from my town of Oceanside.

Should make it a as needed sign, kinda like the snow chains required signs that get turned 90*.
Friday Morning thru Monday Am would suffice, any other time its kinda useless to make everyone stop there.

That happened the week after Memorial Day. The other car was coming from a mini-truck show/rave that was being held on the Chemehuevi Res at Havasu Landing.

Here's the CHP write-up on Officer Muehlhausen:
Officer Daniel J. Muehlhausen had finished investigating a minor traffic accident and was dispatched to assist a disabled motorist about 11 a.m. Officer Muehlhausen was traveling east on Highway 62 near Twentynine Palms, when a mini pickup attempting to pass on a hill crossed over double yellow lines and struck his patrol car head on. The 30-year-old Patrol officer and the two young male occupants of the truck were killed instantly. Both vehicles were immediately engulfed in flames. The rural two-lane stretch of highway where the crash occurred was marked with "No Passing" warning signs because of numerous dips and blind curves that hamper a driver's view of oncoming traffic. Only hours earlier, the driver was traveling in a group of four mini-trucks when one of the drivers was ticketed for trying to pass unsafely. Officer Muehlhausen was assigned to the Indio Area after graduating from the Academy two years earlier.

I remember reading the article here in my local paper saying the kids in the mini truck came from Oceanside.
Sad deal all around.
