View Full Version : What year is your boat and how many hours do you have on it??

I DIG IT !
04-01-2007, 11:44 AM
Ok every boat that I look at new and old all have pritty low hours!! I dont get it. Do people just buy boats and dont use tham, or just chill and drink beer and hang out all day. I bought my boat because I love to drive it!! I'm On my 2nd boat and I seam to put arround 100 hours a year on it. And I dont have the 8+ months of boating in Washington. I would think that alot of boat in havi would have tons of hours on them with the sweet weather. What do people do? Lunch the boat at windsor and head strait to the channal and stay there all day???? I'm I the only one that has thought about this?? I just feel that I use my boat alot. I wonder if people just buy and sell alot. Buy the way I have a 2000 272 with 370 hours on it. My last boat bought with 420 and sold it with over 900. Had to freshen the motor up before I sold it.

I sold the Nordic last year it was a 98 and it had 556'ish hours on it. The boat was clean inside and out though, and I had the motor gone through the season before I sold it.
Stacy's new (to her) Spectra is a 79 and it 700'ish hours on it when she bought it? I think it has 730 - 740 already now just from the 3 or 4 times she's taken it out. Don't much matter now though becuase we took the hour meter out of it and replaced it with a new guage.

Unknown year...( late 60s- earily 70s) I've got about 500 hours on rebuilding her...( had to sand off all of the paint ) Lots of polishing rough castings... blah blah blah. Its nice to work on something that does not have a home owner or deadline on it.

I don't put to much stock in engine hours on performance boats since most of us only use our lake/river boats from about March to October.
Engine & Generator Hours are more of an issue on express cruisers, sportfishers, yachts & etc. Since it cost much more to repair, rebuild or replace/repower engines in said vessels.
1983 27' Marlin Day Cruiser, family owned & opperated since 1987 - hours unknown.

Engine hours is just one data point that is not that important to me.
1. How many hours at WOT
2. How often oil changed
3. Was it ever overheated due to cooling water failure
4. Salt water or fresh
5. Was the outdrive serviced on preventative maintenance cycle?
