Wow...:(
I read Jack Tatums book "They Call Me Assassin" and he talks about this in it. Decent reading for any football fans.

It's a sad thing. For both men.
Stingley of course for obvious reasons. But for Tatum as well.
Jack Tatum was the hardest hitter ever for his size. It seemed like every game he made hits that looked like thay came off of Ronnie Lott's (another great hitter) all time highlight clips...He didn't paralyze Stingely on purpose. Last I heard that hit was still keeping Tatum out of the Hall of fame. One of my favorite all time highlight clips is of Jack Tatum hitting Earl Campbell one on one at the goal line. Campbell got the TD but what an effort. The best hitter ever hitting the best ever at running over people head on, one on one..
PS. Campbell was about 20 lbs bigger than Tatum and he needed every ounce of it on that play.:) :)
