I have always said Zillow was a joke.
Just this week, I looked up a few houses in my neighborhood that have recently sold in the current slow market.
Zillow shows what they sold for and what the original 'zestimate' quote was. They were off a good 50-85k on almost all of them.
I would be pissed as well. Consumers that are looking at houses actually use that site and believe what it says.

zillow is a joke. zillow doesnt follow market trends or does not physically go to a neighbor hood or home to find comparisons. IMO you need a human being. Call a Realtor.

Every area I have ever checked they have been way low. The best one ever was a house in Boulder City Nv near my parents they said was worth 550,000 sold for over a million.. They were not even close.

I think that Zillow is a work in progress. I am not sure about the areas that you all mention that are not accurate, but speaking for the accuracy of OC, i bet it's because there is a lot more data due to the volume of houses sold.
Its my best guess and I could be misinformed.

As a matter of fact. It's terriable in OC. Most of the newer homes built in the last 10-12 yrs. have wrong if any tax info. They will take a luxury home up the street with 5 beds 4baths & a 3 car garage and comp that to a attached home 1/8 mile away with 3 beds and 16oo sqft.. The values are all over the place and the ranges often very 100k +. It's only great if it tells you what you want to hear. Good luck selling it for that price. But what do I know? I just sell homes for a living.:)

From what I've seen, it's pretty inaccurate. Way low for out here. I know it's the boondocks and all, but I'm only 7/10 mile from 2 major grocery stores, pizza, hollywood video, walgreens, gas, etc. It rated our 2.5 acres and 1600 sq ft house at $195,000 LOL

Damn! It's free! If you want exacts, order an appraisal or have your title rep get you access to something better! (and that site is only good for seeing a satelite view of your house!)

If a piece of junk is free, that makes it . . . a free piece of junk.
I guess if it was wrong $500K in the OTHER direction, I wouldn't think it was so bad, though. LOL
