Where do you plan to retire at and when

Well my retirement portfolio looks like this:
1) Work my asz off and give most my money to Uncle Sam so he can buy some degenerate in a third world country who knows what
2) Work my azs off putting kids thru school and pay child support on what I have left
3) Work my Asz off and try to pinch some pennies to spend on ME and my hobbies < if I can take time off from work ?
4) What age will I retire ? > when the good Lord rings the dinner bell and calls me Home :D
5) Vacation Spot > it's a toss up between , laying underneath the Big Mesquite Tree next to my Dad at our Ranch:(
or going out in flames , and spread out in the wind

We're looking forward to moving (retireing) to the Moolava Keyes in a few years.
It's the way our finances are set up, and we'll have another kid outta the house too.
We'll see if we can pull it off.

In another few years, Havasu Hangin' and I should be able to use our Hot Boat Moderator pention to buy a pair of 42' Cigarette Rum Runners and a small island off the Florida keys. I will spend the rest of my days running Cuban cigar's to safe house in Ft Meyers.

If you come east, I could use a boat ride.
I don't plan on retiring, though I'd like to have enough money to retire if I want. Look at Warren Buffet or Wayne, Huzienga the guy who owns the Dolphins, 80 yr. old billionaires, they're not retired.
My original plan was to own some rental houses, but that deal is not looking so hot now. Buy a house for $200,000 that rents for $1,000/mo., taxes and insurance $6,000/yr.

I was going to blow my generous inheritance on a pimped out pad on the river down in Mohave Valley or in the Palo Verde Estates in Bullhead. Now that my pops has gone off the deep end with his new wife and we're gonna have kids it looks like I'm relegated to a few nights a year at the Bayshore Inn:D

If it was up to me, I'd be done already, sold everything and living next door to Kilrtoy's wife.
When you're young its easy to think you'll be rich when you retire. but it ain't that easy. the bills keep on coming. Kids sure are costly. Real estate has done well for me up to this year, I will be giving some of those gains back...:( But it will cycle up again before too long and we should get on for the ride. I have a couple multi-families that will support me when I can't work. They'll be paid off by then, and rents will continue to climb.
Putting away some that came from the family in stocks and that's doing well. The wife never wants to move, so I'll retire to sunny San Diego... LOL

I'll continue to crash at RD's in the Keys from time to time. But I've been telling my wife that after I retire I want to drive the fire engine on Main Street at Disneyland, taking tourist from the train station, to the castle. :D

Sounds like you're doing good. "The bills keep coming" is a situation that CAN be remedied, however. It seems these days that getting everything on payments is so automatic that people are like zombies. We can't figure out how to save money, but look at how much we pay in interest to the bank! Think about it-if you pay off your car you get a return on your money of 6-10%. If you take that car payment and invest it you'll GAIN 10-12% annually. That's a 15-20% positive change in position on your money. Multiply that by how much the average person spends on car payments in a lifetime and it's enough to make you throw up.
Now take that and apply it to your credit cards and other stuff. What if you were EARNING interest instead of paying interest on that money? Would you be better off? We all have to buy stuff and pay for it. The question is, do you want to sacrifice now and get the stuff a little later or do you want to buy the stuff now and sacrifice later? Given the power of compound interest, I'd say the former choice is the wiser one and it's the system we're going to.
Yeah, it sucks sometimes that I can't have all the bitchin' stuff that others my age have....YET. I'll have the same stuff in the future but mine won't come with payments. It's the simple stuff that makes you rich. The average self-made millionaire got to be wealthy by driving a two year old car they paid cash for. If you wanna be rich, do what rich people do. If you wanna be average, do average stuff. But when 70% or more of us are living hand to mouth, average doesn't look like a plan to me.

I figure once you can live on 8% of your nest egg you're good. The stock market averages 12% annually, so take out 4% inflation and you can live on 8% of golden eggs without touching the goose.

I have to tell you it was the old boring way. Save, invest, diversify. No big ticket items got us there except smart personal finances.
One thing we did do: We decided to save a significant percentage ( sometimes over 25%) of our income every year. Some years it was not easy or possible but we tried. We lived on what was left over after saving vs spending then saving what you might have left over. Since we had NO plans of stopping boating, 4x4, traveling etc. we got real smart on how we spent our money IE buying vehicles, boats, houses, debt etc. Nearly everything we bought we looked at as an investment first then our preferences for owning it second. At the end of the day it's about discipline and being smart with you personal finances. Anyway it worked for us and I don’t think I forfeited an ounce of fun along the way.

My house in socal will be pd off in 8 years. I'll still work 12 days a month till I die.
If you need me I'll be in the moho with my boat at the river or havi the rest of the month.
At least thats my plan as of right now. I guess some kind of plan is better than no plan. And If I kick it before I'm 60 the old lady will be 500K richer.

Being in Public Service, our pensions are pretty much set. Only 8 years away from retirement and then 2 Gubmint checks (Public Safety and Military) for me and 1 (Federal Employee/TSP) for the Mrs. coming in. We've also got some dough squirrled away in investments. S/S should still be around, but we're not counting that for our future, but anything there is gravy. As it sits now, we'll be making more retired than we are now, working.
We already live at the River, so we'll be looking for other digs for 1/2 the year or so. Probably Eastern Oregon or Northern Nevada, whichever has a better tax situation for us. The Kids and Grandkids are up that way, so we'll want to be closer to them, but not TOO close.

Well it all sounds good.
Not to splash the cold water, because most of you seem to really be focused and have well-thought out plans..
BUT..
Be as prepared as you can for the unexpected. At 46 I had a career ending injury that left me with a lot of marketable skills and no marketable spine to haul them around with. After one surgery and another on the horizon, I ain't hireable.
Ultimately, I'll be okay after a couple of more years of re-arranging things and fighting the system, paying my attorney, etc. I have my 50% disability pension, and the wife has a 401k and I also have a 457b, but I can't get into mine until I'm 59 1/2, same with Cindy.
Do your best to plan for hiccups, and bad times, because they will jump up out of nowhere and bite you on the ass when you absolutely don't expect it. I would never have guessed, in a million years, that we'd be in these circumstances right now. Never.

I've been poor all my life, I never knew how to, much less had anything TO save. I have more now than I've ever dreamed of having, but it's all pretty much due to having really good credit scores LOL.
