This can't be good, Venezuela's president just took over the oil fields. (http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=worldNews&storyid=2007-05-01T122330Z_01_N01493022_RTRUKOC_0_US-VENEZUELA-NATIONALIZATION.xml&src=rss&rpc=22)

Gas prices have very little to do with oil prices. Oil is the raw material used in making refined products. It represents approximately 33% of the total cost. Supply and demand is the issue. We need more refinery capacity!! We talk about this every month!

They will never get it Big Warlock. They will always blame GW and anything else they can thiink of for the gas prices instead of the liberals and eco freaks that pushed to defeat the bill to build more refineries and oil exploration.Untill we build more refineries to keep up with the american demand we will be hearing the same thing over and over.

Is it a coincidence that gas prices go up just when summer is coming and more people are hitting the roads...and lakes? We go through this every year, it seems.

Gee maybe since we don't have the capability to refine enough fuel durring regular times and the demand for fuel goes up durring summer hollidays making the prices go up.Hell we learned the rules of supply and demand in junior high.Doesn't anyone remember that when dmand is high and supply is low that prices go up.And when demand is low and supply is high prices drop.

Don't forget that you live in California. One of the states that place the highest taxes per gal of any of the lower 48.One of the reasons you are at 4 bucks a gallon while we pay 3 bucks a gallon.Maybe they should rename the state Taxifornia. Wow you can really predict future gas prices?

Junior High was a long time ago! Thanks for reminding me of basic economics, but it doesn't help me to cope with these gas prices any better.:(

Over the last quarter-century, the number of refineries in the United States dropped to 149, less than half the number in 1981. Because companies have upgraded and expanded their aging operations, refining capacity during that time period shrank only 10 percent from its peak of 18.6 million barrels a day. At the same time, gasoline consumption has risen by 45 percent.
The business of turning crude oil into gasoline, jet fuel or heating oil has rarely been a lucrative proposition. It has dismal profit margins compared with its more glamorous cousin, exploration. It is highly cyclical and fairly unpredictable, because demand for gasoline swings sharply by season. And because of low oil prices over the past decades, refiners have been forced into cutthroat competition that has driven many of the smaller refiners out of business.

I agree with you that the prices suck. But untill we as a nation push our congressmen to pass legislation to build more refineries to increase supply we will continue to see prices rise.Especially in the high demand seasons which happen to be spring/summer.The period of time when we fill our tow rigs and boats up and travel on vacation.

anyone know when we are going to get some kind of regulated on pricing on fuel? I mean I go to Wal Mart to get rubber balls and they don't change price every time I go in there. Last time I checked, they are a petroleum product. My .02

That's a good question. But I do know that we have not built any new refineries in 20+ yrs and the number of cars on the road and boats, planes, and other gas using vehicles has gone up emensly.

in 1980 Arab Light (w/ght) crude was $28.00 a barrel and algerian crude was $40.00 a barrel, fact so 27 years later its 250% higher....source the Energy Decade 1970-1980

Good info. Looks like I stand corrected on my 33% estimation. I was in the oil business in the 80's.

Here in California we will hit $4.00 a gallon.
Next year i predict 5.00 a gallon in June.
In less than five years we will pay 7.00 a gallon.

This is how the auto industry will get back on it's feet. First they sell a bunch of gas suckers and now everyone will want gas sippers. I've got it all figured out.
