The receptionist at my work thinks she knows everything and is my boss, which she is absolutely not. Mind you she is only 22. She has been here 2 years so she just knows it all (according to her)! I am sooooo sick of her attitude, bossy, controlling, whiney behavior. She tries to take over tasks that are clearly mine then asks me to tell her how to do them. I donÂ’t know if she is trying to gain points or something with the boss by knowing how to do my job or what. They are things I was hired to do. She snaps at me too when I ask her to do things. Just completely rude. However on her good days she can be nice as pie.

People like her are what E-mail is for. Whenever I have to do a project with a difficult person I do all my communicating with E-mail, that way I can save a record of what has been done and said for them etc.. If the person says I never requested something from or gave info to them that they requested etc. I can politely point out where I did and re send it to them with documentation of the origional time and date etc.. If the person is being both rude and wrong I can politely correcet them as above and fwd the message to the boss as well.:idea:

Although HB is not usually a place to post questions expecting a serious response, I will chime in, as I had something come up today.
IMO, The best was to gain the respect and admiration of subordinates/employees is through consistancy, character, knowledge, maintaining a level head, and standing your ground. You have to be tough and not a pushover, yet not a dick, or ****, as the case may be. This is best obtained by using facts and logic when disputes arise. Think of the days when you were in a subordinate position, recall the leaders you respected( if any) and emulate their actions. If you gain enough knowledge about the specific job(I am speaking generally as I don't know what you do) you can challenge her on some of the things on which she is wrong. When you are successful in this, she will stop challenging you. Don't ever go off, it'll just weaken your character, and ruin your day.
Finally, there are some people you just won't get through to. I fire them...:)
