I have a 23' Cobra Razor with a walk thru Cuddie, I was wondering where is the best place to put a couple of 12's? I don't want to put them in the engine comp. so what does that leave?

Rear seat base downfiring, side panels, or mount boxes beneath your driver and passenger seats...

Do I have to make any mods to the rear seat? ie seal them off to make a box or can I just install them in the seat. The Dirver and Pass seats dont have the hollow space like in the photo. Do you recomend any shops in the so cal area?
Thanks!!!

this will be the best sounding option. Yes you have to modify the base and build a sealed box. Actually the whole base will be reconstructed and the seat will bascially screw ontop of the box (the box acts as the seat base) There are plenty of shops in SO-Cal worthy of doing an install like that....Where are you located?

Sorry, I don't have any pics handy. But your boat is basically the same boat as mine. I have two sealed enclosures with 12's in them built into the bulkhead in my mid cabin. I decided against mounting them under the back seat because I didn't want to lose the storage under the seat.

I am located in the Riverside area, I was thinking about Wired 4 Sound in temecula. Has any one had any problems with them?

I like that idea, Did you have to cut into the seats in the bow at all?

No, there is enough room behind them where you won't have to cut into the seats.

What did you end up deciding? We are in the same situation with the 23' Razor we just bought. Placing a 12 under the driver and passenger seats seems like the way to go, but we are concerned with giving up the storage space.

What product did you end up going with?(What speakers, amps and subs)
I would do a wake board tower with the Subs mounted up high and then I would mount the mids/highs as low as possible;)
That should rail pretty good!!

Nothing elaborate. I went with a JL E6450, JL 500/1 and 2 JL 12w3 subs. Going to keep the 6 6x9's and Clarion head unit for the time being, and add a mini-jack to RCA interface for an iPod.
No towers for this boat

Should sound good with what you chose.
Are the current 6x9's being run off the head unit or is there an amp in the boat?
I went throught 2 JL E6450's this past summer  ....Needless to say I will be going a different route this time. My advise would be to make sure you keep it realllllly cool with a good fan and some kind of ventilation.
What does the under dash/Cuddy area of the boat look like? Could you do a 12 on each side and make it look good(Angled box built into a corner)?

I hope I don't have a problem with the E6450. We had one in our last boat and never had a problem with it. Did you mainly run into problems with over heating them?
No space really under the dash. The cuddy has some small storage area behind the seat backs, but it isn't much. There is free space on both sides above the seats, where the hull curves up. Like a rear deck portion. Not sure if there is enough room for a sub enclosure there or not. If there was, the subs would be visible.

I am pretty sure they overheated and fried? They never wen't into protect mode they just broke....
We have them mounted behind the seat in the mid cuddy and they are a amp rack with my 2 Zapcos. The JL gets super hot and actually raises the temp of the Zapcos yet they continue to play.(We have a fan and 2 vent holes in the back of the seat)
I am going to space the amps off the rack a tad and add some bilge blower fans to move alot of air.I will replace the E6450 with either a JL 4channel 300 watter (the better series) or I will just buy another Zapco 360.4 and call it good.
I am gonna guess that SWB will have some good imput for the install!!;)

My friend has the same boat and glassed in two 10's above each seat. They look and sound great. I'll see if I can get him to send me some pics.

If he fit two 10's above each seat, then 1 12 above each seat wouldn't be a problem. Thanks Matt.

Thought I would revisit this subject just in case there is another Cobra 230 owner out there that isn't sure about where to place the subs. We were originally thinking of having them built into the driver and passenger seat bases, but did not want to lose the storage space. So instead the rear seat base was rebuilt with two down firing 12's. We lost a little bit of storage space, but nothing like what we would have lost placing them in the front seats. Couldn't be happier with the sound and finished product. Placing them under the rear seat was definitely the way to go for us. Thanks again for the great job SWB!

Sean,
That turned out sweet!!!
You and SWB do some nice work.
If it sounds half as good as it looks we are all going to need ear plugs :220v:
Post some other pictures I am interested to see what the amp install looks like.

Thanks Brandin, but I can't take credit for this. This is all SWB's handy work. All I did was remove a couple bolts and stand around asking annoying questions :D It's not going to entertain the whole sand bar, but it will definitely entertain anyone sitting in the boat. Especially anyone sitting on the rear bench seat.
Here are some pictures of the amps. I guess this really isn't a thread hi-jack since this is still a Cobra boat :crossx:

Looks really clean.
I think that rear area is begging for another set of diamonds mounted right next to the current ones and then you could run the cuddy speakers off the headunit. :crossx:
How does it sound?

Your boat probably hits as hard with 2 12's as ours does with 4 10's.(We are only giving them 100watts each and yours are getting more than double that)
We need a splitter off our Ipods to go to eachothers boat so we can bang the same songs at the same time. :crossx:

That's not a half bad idea  Do you have sat radio in the Sleek? If you have Sirius we can just set them to the same station :crossx:

Looks good! I am going to be doing the same thing. I didn't want to loose the storage under the front seats. The plan is to put 2 12" JL w3 under the back seat, leave the 6 x 9 's in place, add 4 componet 6.5's and a third Batt. I have the Fosgate amp in the cuddy behind the seats but it overheats every 10 mins worth of stero play, even with a fan. I'll be switching back to JL amps for the install. I have NEVER had a problem with JL in my old boat.

The front seats have a good amount of space for storage I just couldn't get rid of the space! I agree w/ you on that :D That's why we went this route... good luck w/ yours!

Thanks. I scrapped the 6x9's in the rear bench was because it had to be completely rebuilt. I figured why put them back in, plus it gave me an excuse to install some separates :crossx: I want to add another set of separates eventually. I did basically the same thing with the batteries. I pulled out one of the group 24 batteries and put in two Optima blue tops, which just run the stereo. I kept the other group 24 battery for starting. I'm planning on adding a automatic charger in the next month.
Post some pics when you get through with everything. I'd definitely like to see how it turns out.
