Can someone tell me how to tell if a rolex is real. :)

AZJD

What model and can you post pics?
Sweeping second hand, fakes still have somewhat of a tic.
Second hand on real goes all the way to inside rim of bezel.
Braclet connection point to watch.
size, weight and crystal

There are 21, 23, and 25 jewel movements on fakes. I believe the real have a 32 jewel movement.

You also have swiss made fakes that are very close to being real. Some of these companies buy real rolex parts to make their watches and charge close to $1000

The newer ones also have a crown hologram in the crystal at the 6:00 marker. The best bet would be to take it to a jeweler and have them open the back of the case. ;)

AZKC
05-07-2007, 01:43 PM
Why or How?

AZJD
05-07-2007, 01:44 PM
Gaps in the braclet, braclet mounting to the watch.....etc....
It is a Submariner. Where did you come across it?

AZJD
05-07-2007, 01:45 PM
Missing small stone at 12 spot on bezel. Second hand is too short. A real Rolex is tight and doesn't have any gaps.

To someone who has never seen a real one, the fake will fool them. It sweeps pretty good until compared to a real.

The one in the pic is a fake. Some other good quick fake indicators....
Back is clear = Fake
no hologram on back (last 8 years i think)= Fake
no papers...........= fake
Light Weight = Fake
You can take the serial #'s off the back and run them through Rolex as well
When buying a Rolex third party, the warranty must be transferable. Otherwise you might as well buy a fake or a Swatch ;)

All I know is my 1986 Yellow Casio G-Shock STILL keeps good time.....I don't wear it (or any watch for that matter), but it still keeps good time none the less. 21 years later. I'm guessing the battery was replaced one time, but for the life of me I can't remember it, and it would have been the early '90's at the soonest.

Back on topic. I have a question about an American made watch thats hand built with swiss movements, saw a little blurp on them on Made in America show. They were pretty high dollar and I can't remember the name of the company. I think they only had 3-4 employees. Anyone???

here is a pic of mine, it's a sub 50th anniv. I would saw the one in your pic is a fake judging by the band. It looks like very large gaps in the band. These watches are very heavy, the second hand does tick ever so slightly, you really have to look hard to see it..hope it helps..

Ya the green sticker doesn't last if you wear it daily. Also the band does tend to loosen up so it depends on how much it was worn. My band is way looser than when I originally got. Also look for serial number on 2 links on both sides closest to the watch.

Your best bet is to take it to a good watch place, and ask them. I'm sure there's a good Rolex deal in Beverly Hills. But if he tells you it's fake, then tries to buy it off you for a low price, get another option. ;) :D

I don't think that is a submariner but a GMT Master. Someone brought up the idea of running the serial # past Rolex...great idea. A google search on Rolex USA in NY turned up this...

I think we need better pics of it to be sure. Hang it on a string around your neck. Kinda nestle it down there in the cleavage area and take some good closeups. The skin tone will help us judge the finish of it better... :D
