My brother-in-law is looking to take his first step into boat ownership - yeah!
His primary use will be tooling around Newport Harbor with his wife and 2 young kids.
Secondarily, he plans to play with all of us in Havasu now and again.
Speed is not a concern.
He has looked at many options and concludes that a late model, used deck boat will best suit his needs....
But which one?
He's been to the boat shows and seen the Chaparral, Monterey, Ebbtide, Tahoe, etc...
He's done his research on line and scans the Boat Trader as well.
But now we are reaching out to the ultimate source - all y'all! ;)
So, let's hear it - which model should he get?
Thanks!

Used to cruise Newport Harbor quite a bit, lots of stuff to see and pretty humbling I might add. We would spend the whole day just sight seeing!!
Good luck to him, I also woud add that the Chaparrel with its high free board and deep vee would be a good choice just in case they want to wander out into the deep blue sea. Lots of maintenace from salt water and super Important to do it. NSF

I've been out in the big blue on a 24 or 25 Chaparral Deck. It did just fine. Although the seas were like glass that day. :)

my friend has a 26 monterey moored in newport harbor...great boat!!!....not a deckboat but has lots of room and runs to catalina no problem...also does havasu 2 or 3 times a year....IMO it would only be a matter of time before they wanted to venture out in the big blue, that should be something for them to consider :)

My uncle has a Starcraft Deck Boat. He seems to like it. Its reall nice looking and has a bunch of cool options for under 50k.
Rides pretty shitty in Rough water IMO. ..so does the Chaparel.
