First off, I don't know chit about this stuff so be gentle. I'm not trying to be the loudest just want a good sound for what I've got to work with.
First off I have a a Sony Xplod, CDX-L510X, 50W X 4 radio, or should I say reciever. By the way this is the first strereo/reciever I've ever had.LOL The boat had 2 bad ass, get down, Realistic 6 X 9 3 ways, y'all jealous I can tell :rollside: I'm in the process of redoing the interior and its time to start cutting some speaker holes.
What should I get 2-ways, 3 ways, what brand?
I found these on e-bay, Item #8036226193 TNT 500watt 3-way, 6.5" car, truck, boat, speakers. For 9.00 a pair. Whats up with that.
Also I have two amps, I was thinking about hooking two speakers to the output of the reciever and two speakers to the amp. Or should I use both amps.

Start off with your budget. What is it? Stay away from 500w $9 speakers too. :D

Thats sound easier than it is. I don't have a budget so to speak. I'm just looking for some decent speakers. Two of them are goning to be in front of the driver and passager the other two are gonna be in the back in the bench. I've got friends with the amps, woofers, tweeters, XM etc. All the good stuff. When were just "hanging" out my chit stays off.

I'd consider coaxial 6" or 6X9 speakers by Polk, Eclipse, Boston Acoustics(like Matt ;) ), MB Quart, Diamond, focal, or even Alpine. Your 50 watts is rated at 14.4 volts, so you're really looking at like 35x4 when the alternator isn't turing. All of the MFG listed above have speakers to fill your solution.
What is most important is that you purchase the speaker that fits your budget, needs, and sounds best to YOU.
Hope these 2 vague paragraphs help out :D
I can hook you up on all but the Eclipse, but 9.00 is going to be hard to beat... ;) :D

Crutchfield would have some - maybe even on special. Say away from the Sony speakers. The decks are ok, but the speakers are not what you are looking for.
This place has pretty good specials:

I am a fan of Eclipse, Orion, and Directed. Eclipse may be a little on the high end for you, but is priced right there with MB, BA, and Infinity. Focals would be a little more, but I understand they just plain rock.
My installer is a fan of Pioneer 6X9s. He says for a boat, they really fit the bill.

Should I go a 3 way or 2 way, 6 x 9 or round? Can you give me an idea of what kind of money your talking?

Stay away from speakers that cost less than lunch or more than a used car.
Now that thars good advise! :D

The bigger the better.
6X9s will be louder and give better "open air" sound. 6.5" is for cars. I would stick with at least a 3-way. Most these days are 4 or 5 way.

i'll put a 6.5 with a horn up against a 6x9 any day. the audiobahns 6.5's with the horns are on ebay for about 60 bucks and will blow away any high in stuff the shops will try to sell you

He's got a point here. I have been out when the boat with these speakers he is referring to was with him. They do sound good for 6.5s. I didn't get to hear them getting worked over, but they did sound good.
I am still a 6X9 fan.
