Looks like the gene pool has gotten a tad smaller.

A 21-year-old man was killed and a woman was critically injured Monday when the man allegedly drove the car they were in into the path of a Metrolink train in Sun Valley, authorities said.
The collision occurred about 12:10 p.m. in the 9800 block of San Fernando Road of Sun Valley, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
"The collision is being investigated as an attempted homicide, said Denise Tyrrell of Metrolink. "The lady is not dead, but the man who was attempting the homicide is dead."
Brandon Funches, 21, died at the scene, according to the coroner's office.
None of the 132 passengers on the train were injured and the train sustained only superficial damage, Tyrrell said.
Funches drove the car past other motorists waiting for the train to pass and stopped in front of the oncoming train, Tyrrell said.
Funches died, apparently because "he tried to leave the car but didn't get out in time," she said.
"The train crossing (gate) was down, the lights flashing, and several witnesses were waiting for the train to pass," she said. "The car fishtailed around the crossing, right into the path of the oncoming train. Police are investigating the collision as a crime scene."
The train headed from Union Station to Lancaster was delayed about an hour and then other trains were delayed about 10 minutes because the lights and signal had been destroyed.
"The conductor had to get out and walk the train, which is just what it sounds like," Tyrrell said. "The conductor gets off and walks alongside to make sure everything is safe and clear."
