Lost 3 freakin' bra's this last weekend. Anyone know of a good trick to keep these things from falling off? I was told to make sure as much air is out as possible so it suctions on there good but they still fall off.

Fill your Bearing Buddies up with grease, then put them on immediately (and burp them). As the buddy settles, it will create some suction.

I prefer the stainless pop in covers that come on the Extreme trailers. Never lost one yet, and they look good.

You need a little film of grease on the cap and buddy to help hold them on once they are burped, it seals out the air. If the surfaces are perfectly clean, they come off easily, cause air can get in easily.

I use the dime a dozen find them around any water cooler. Yup the tops off the 5 gallon water jugs, they are a tight fit.And if I loose one, oh well. Like I say there a dime a dozen, basicly free. I'll get ya a pic if you need one.

I ditched my bearing buddies. Now I have metal caps I put on. They cost about $1.00 each and seem to stay put without any problems.

And they come in black to match.
No mater how much I burped mine the brakes would heat the grease and make pressure, pushing them loose. Thats my theory anyway.

Take them off and throw them away.....my trailer guy says they are just for looks, and they trap moisture inside....
He says.....throw them away!

If you want to be a maniac, you can use a hose clamp (polished of course).

me to just a small hole so they don't build pressure and pop off

Yes the small 1/8th" hole is good with a black zip tie wrap. Gotta let it breath and it will keep the grease off your wheels and tires.

Never had a problem falling off. I make sure there good a burped before any road trip. A couple shots of grease never hurts to help creat a vacume to hold them on.

I've sliced a little cut with a razor knife in the past. Lets air pressure out but not grease and keeps water out too.

I use the center caps that come with the wheels. Using a 3/4" hole saw, drill a hole in the center of the cap, then put a 3/4" plastic plug(Home Depot, Lowes) in it. Been doing that for years and never had a problem.
I'll take a pic tomorrow A.M. and post it.
Look sharp, feel sharp :D

Bearing buddie makes a cap for just that if I understand you correctly sir:

"Innie" Cap is held with Lip.
Some bearing buddie caps are "outties", some are "innies".
Our Speedster has the Innies.

The zip ties DO work great, but what works even better are hose clamps, thats what I have on my trailer. Cost about $5 and you wont have to look back;):D

I like that idea Bilge!! I take it you have Buddies and the cap covers them? I have the open center caps that would be used for a front axle of a 4x4 to get to the locking hubs. I hate them. There not round anymore and look like crap. Your idea is MUCH cleaner looking by far.

These things are a snug fit as well. Like I say a dime a dozen.

You guys don't listen....the last thing you want is to trap moisture in there....get rid of those stupid little "bras" or cut a big hole in them.....or maybe you like to have you hubs overheat and lock up 60 miles down Rice Road.......

On a similar note, an old boater once told me to give your axles a chance to cool down
once you reach the lake before getting launching your boat. The hot axles in
the cool water create a vacuum causing water to be sucked in past
the seals. Hell, it sounds logical http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/1474/dunnoym2.gif (http://imageshack.us)
:) ~Bilge
Exactly....the last thing you want is a "snug fit".....you really want to trap moisture in there and keep it there??
Bearing Buddy puts them on there for looks and to make sure you have to buy new Bearing Buddy bearings every few years (planned obsolescence?)…..
Loose the Bearing Buddy "bras".....
