Just had my oil changed in the boat and paid 2 bills, but the kicker was 9.95 for a qt. of oil. I usually change my own oil, so I'm not accustomed to taking it anywhere. Is this the going rate or did I just get reamed?

Jeez... I don't even pay $10/qt for aviation oil...
Is the empty jar of Vasoline included in that price???

considering the cost of labor, $200 is cheap for an oil change.
where did you take it?

Well if that's the going price then I'm not going to bitch about it. I've just always done the oil change myself and am not used to paying someone to do it.

Just changed my own outdrive and engine oil for 75.00. That's using 12 qt of kendall 50 wt and amsoil sythenic (sp) drive oil in a 800 teague motor.... that's including the Fran hp6a oil filter that was 26.00. I'm not talking about man hours, that is a different story:D

That is expensive!
I usually do it myself but was feeling lazy this season.
I had an oil change for the motor and drive and paid $115.00 $90 of that was labor.

Sounds to me like maybe his guys work commission, so he bumps the price up on parts and shows less labor... that way he can screw his help over...;)
I had a Fiberglass repair shop North of me and ran across a couple of instances on say a $2000 job. My ticket would show $500 on parts and materials and $1500 on labor. Over at the other shop it would be just opposite... $1500 on parts and materials and $500 on labor. He wanted to know what I paid my main glass and gelcoat guy so he could match it for his guy, since they were both commission. Whose guy was getting fukked?http://***boat.com/ubb/graemlins/idea_2.gif
