Indian casinos pull in record $25 billion

WASHINGTON - Indian gambling pulled in $25 billion in 2006, 11 percent more than the year before as the industry's explosive growth outpaced Las Vegas.
Federal figures announced Monday, compiled from 387 tribal facilities in 28 states, show Indian gambling revenue has nearly doubled in five years.
Indian casinos brought in $12.8 billion from gambling in 2001, $22.5 billion in 2005 and $25.1 billion in 2006, according to the National Indian Gaming Commission.
‘‘The continued growth is eye-opening considering the tribal gaming industry is still relatively young,'' said commission Chairman Phil Hogen.
Most of the growth has come since 1988 when Congress passed a law creating the legal framework for Indian gambling. The law let Indian tribes, with the consent of a state's governor, run slot machines and other profitable games on their reservations not allowed elsewhere in the state.
Indian gambling revenue in 2006 was far richer than the $12.62 billion gambling take in Nevada in 2006. But Nevada casinos make a lot of money with restaurants, hotels and other entertainment, so their total 2006 revenue was $24.08 billion.
Indian casinos aren't required to report their profits, and most don't disclose that information, so it's not possible to know the tribes' net income. Nevada's major hotel-casinos posted their highest net income ever in fiscal 2006 - a combined $2.1 billion.

I'm presently doing a renovation and expansion on a Tribal Casino outside of Escondido at the moment. The amount of money that comes through the doors here is amazing...
These tribes are rolling in it.. Money that is.

Years ago when i was doing electrical work we put the cameras in the Casino Arizona's. When they started bringing in the slot machines a piece of paper fell out of one of the dollar slots.I checked it out and it said it pays a $4000 jackpot every 97,235 pulls of the handle. You could play up to 3 coins :D
Yea,they are making bank i'd say.

I've been doing Construction on Indian Land for the past 8 years. Schools, Tribal offices, and now casinos. I'd be surprised if WalMart was going to build on a reservation. I know that the idea was approached on the Navajo reservation and Wal-Mart refused to build there. Something about their company policy on owning the land their stores are on. Even when they were offerred a long term lease, they declined.

I really stay out of the Indian casinos. I don't like how they seem to screw you around whenever they feel like it.

...and just prior to the first day of school, the local tribes (same ones with the casinos) were asking the public to donate a new back-pack for the Indian kids.
I was thinking, geez how about empting out a couple slot machines and buying the kids some back packs yourself

One of my bankers said that she had an application for a home loan from one of the tribe members whose tribe owns that Pechanga casino. This particular borrower was something like 26 years old and her paystubs shows that she made 26K a month and that her income was going to be 32K a month starting this year sometime. All that mone na dthe borrower had bad credit.
