Here are some pictures of boat #3
This boat is going to look great also. It is a closed bow with deep blues and reds. The pin line in the boat is metalic silver. It is not a standard gray that most people use. It is an actual metalic gel coat. It is highly reflective and I think will really set this boat off. :)

who's Genesis?
Genesis is a small boat mfg that builds custom boats.. They (The family) also builds hulls and do fiberglass work for several other mfg's. Danny picks out the materials, lay up schedule, etc.. etc.. and they do the labor for him to build the hull.

Great looking boats DAnny. Best of luck on your venture.
Quick question for you. How do you install that stainless rub rail and get it to look so neat? Especially around the corners like the transom to the gunwales? Are you drilling and c-sinking holes to get the screw heads flush with the rail?
Craftsmaship looks very good in those hulls.

That will be up to the customer. These boats are "custom" and I can build them any way you want.
oh yeah, danny, when you gonna make up a website???
It is in the process. I am going to be setting up two. Donahue Custom Marine and Donahue Marine Power. :) I am waiting until I get at least the first on on the water so I can get some good running pictures. :)

Getting it right is a pain, but it is possible. You have to bend it properly and actually "massage" the SS with a deadblow in some cases. When I buy all of the rails, they already come counter sunk for the holes. :)
Hey blown 572, Can you get any pics from the transom facing towards the bow of the interior area?
The boats are still out @ Genesis. They sent me these pictures as "teasers" to what I am going to look forward to. ;) Once I get the boats in my shop, I will take a variety of pictures and post them. :)
Nice!

Thanks Mike
Yes, #2 & #3 both have the carbon fiber in the engine compartment. I will get a close up of it when I get them back to the shop.
The boats come in a variety of power. We have an account with Mercury so we can run Merc motors or we can drop in our motors. #2 is going to get one of our 600/600 motors and #3 is going to get one of our 750's. :) According to the last HB test, the boats ran right at 70 with 365h.p. We hope that it will run high 80's with the 600. No idea with the 750. All I can say is that it is going to be fun. :)
Boats look awesome. When you getting them wet?
The motor for #1 is going to be going on the dyno hopefully tomorrow or Friday. :) It is complete we just need to wait for the dyno to open up. :) I hope that I get it back this weekend so I can drop it in the boat and start hooking it up. :)

We are also building a motor package that will rival the GM572's. The problem with the 572's is that the tolerances are set too tight. I have had nothing but problems with them in the past. :( We have our marine version 600/600 coming out that is going to come with a 1 year warranty & an option for a 2nd year. :) Cost about the same as the GM 572 as well. :)
pretty sweet Danny. Who's doing the interior?
Extreme Marine out in Riverside. I got quotes from all of the big interior shops and they seem to be the best return on investment. :) Their interior definitely impressed me when I took a look at a couple of their boats. :) Everything can be tailored to the customer. :)
Those are great boats Danny.Momma likes them too!!!
Awesome!!! I am very happy with how they are turning out. :) They will definitely be a nice piece when they are complete. :)

In the GBBB (great big book of Bilge) good craftsmanship is one of my favorite chapters!
Thanks for the compliment. :) Believe me, my name is going on EVERY boat & I am going to make sure that EVERY boat is done right. :)
Building boats is something that I really enjoy doing. I have missed it every day since I got out a couple of years ago. Since then, I have worked on a couple of custom projects and they reminded me why I love building boats so much. :)

I am very seriously considering doing #4 as a V-drive. :) I have had a lot of interest in V-drives, but everyone wants to see what we can do before they place an order. I might just build one, show what we can do, then sell it. I am thinking one of our 750's in a V-drive will be a very nice package. :)

What is the availability of v-drive hardware for a new production boat? I would think it would really drive the cost up.
It depends on how trick you want to go. Glenwood makes a wide variety of V-drive parts. They have pretty much everything that you would need to do an "off the shelf" boat. Casale has the V-drives, Art Carr can build the transmissions, and we can cover the motors.
In addition to the suppliers listed above, we have RD. :D We can pretty much make anything that we need for the V-drives in house. We have access to a full CNC machine shop as well as all machining tools needed to tool up one off pieces. :)
When we build the first V-drive, we are planning on modeling everything into CAD from the beginning. That way we can make slight changes and create new pieces that are all our own. It will definitely be a tedious process, but I believe that it will pay off in the end. :)

These are very very cool. I love my "old school" twin turbo v-drve daycruiser, but am looking to make my next boat an I/O bowrider for family reasons. However, I like classic lines and non-skid better than the new boats that all look alike.
What is this based on? It it the old Howard mold?
What's ballpark for a bowrider with a 496HO and Bravo?
Thanks,
Dan

This boat IS the same boat as the Howard Custom Cruiser. I was fortunate to get the molds after Gene sold them. :) The mold is the same mold that was over at Howard for MANY years. I can definitely say one thing... Howard maintains their molds like no one I have ever seen. :) They were pretty much PERFECT when I got them. Just a little buffing and we were ready to go. :)

Soo.... any new updates for us Danny? Really cant wait to see this thing all done. Hows the motor coming along?
I received the 2nd boat yesterday from Genesis. It looks awesome. I should have some pictures tomorrow of it. We are going to do a 6.2/Bravo 1 in it and it should run 70mph and be killer on gas milege. I think it will pretty much be the perfect motor for a "family" ski boat. :)
As for the motor for boat #1. The new DCP (Donahue Custom Power) engine was as good as expected. Right out of the gate it did 589h.p. and 647 ft/lbs of torque. That was also dynoed on 112 octane fuel. Drop it down to the 91 octane and we should pick up another 8-10 h.p. without touching a thing. Low compression motors do not like a lot of octane. We will be setting these motors up for retail sales very shortly. They will come with a 1 year 100 hour warranty straight out of the box. We are also developing our 750h.p. right now. That too will come with a warranty, but the length is to be determined. No matter what, these motors will definitely be a killer bang for your buck. My guess is that fully dressed with CMI headers, water pump, starter, alternator, etc... we will come in between $5K-$8k less than the comprable so cal builder. We are also going to offer an extended 1 year warranty on the 600's taking it to 2 years 200 hours. :) Best bang for the buck by far!
I should be getting the engine back this week and will take pictures of it. The motor idles around 750rpm and is dosile. It will definitely be a nice package for sure.
Saw the 3rd boat the other day and took some pictures of it. I absolutely love it. It is probably going to be the boat that I hold on to for me, at least for a while. Going to run the new DCP 750 in it. :) I am really looking forward to what this boat can do. :)
I have my new camera, but unfortunately the memory card does not fit into my card reader. I am going to have to get the download cable from my house tonight and upload them tomorrow. You will definitely be impressed. :)

Hey Danny, could you PM me the details/price on the 600/600 motor? I wouldn't need exhaust since it would be a swap out for what I have now.

PM Sent.
What we are looking at for an intro deal is:
So far what we are offering is the motor complete ready to drop in the boat for $18,500. That will include CMI Headers, motor mounts, air cleaner, bellhousing, coupler, water pump, starter, etc... Everything ready to drop in and hook up.
All motors will be provided with a dyno sheet. If you are putting on some very restrictive hardware (ie. exhaust), the h.p. will go down. We say that we have a 10% error factor off of the 600h.p. rating on the dyno.
If you have a motor that you want to strip, we can probably get the numbers down to around $15K. That is the motor run on the dyno, ready to be marinized. The motor itself already has the marine tolerances setup on it but will require all of the components to hook up to your existing system.
Be aware, this intro deal is probably going to go away once I get the website all setup and ready to go. I am just trying to get some interest in the motors. Both of the motors come with the 1 year warranty on them and you can buy a 2nd year & an additional 100 hours for $875. Please be aware though, that if you are stripping an old motor, you will need to take it over to someone authorized to work on our motors. You can't just do it in your garage. Also, all components of the motor are going to be lead sealed. If you break the lead seals, you will void your warranty as well.
We know that the motors will run perfectly the way they are, however, if you modify the engine IN ANY WAY, you void any/all warranties.

That sounds good. I've already got Imco Powerflows on it now so I would think they should be ok for that HP.

It all depends. :) Best thing is to sit down and go over it. Base prices start out differently for jets, IO's, V-drives, etc... We can go VERY basic or we can go all out. It depends on what you want. :)

Still waiting.
