Need some advice/opinions...I'm a young guy...
Had been dating a girl for over a year now, and things we're going well. I've been dragboat racing for several years now (been doing it before I met her), but now all of a sudden if I go racing this weekend she's done with me...makes it sound like it's the worst thing in the world I could possibly be doing. I think it's pretty shitty on her part to give me an ultimatum to say choose racing or me. Needless to say, I'm leaving in the morning to head to the track. Am I just being a selfish dickhead or what? Just wanted some input from outside sources.

Why is it that SOME women always try to change us guys.

Granted this is only one side of the story, but if it is all true, then I'd take your side.
If she knew boat racing was your thing when you got together, then that's part of the package. If she didn't like it and knew she wouldn't accept it in the future, then she never should have taken this much of an interest in you.
It's been said that guys get together with girls hoping they won't change. Girls get together with guys hoping they will.
And by the way, if you were to bend on this one at this point, it'll be all downhill from there. Give an inch, take a mile sort of thing.

I think you are doing the right thing by going. If she can't handle dealing with something you love to do then she has a problem. Also have you asked her to participate in some way? If not maybe she would be more open minded if she could help or do something to help . Just my .02

If it's not a birthday, anniversary, family reunion, class reunion or something big, then she is being unreasonable. If she just doesn't want you to go for no particular reason, then she is the a$$hole. However, if there is something else that is important to her that is going on, then I can't say without more of the story.

Dump her! If she doesn't like racing it'll never work, not sure why she dated you in the beginning if she didn't want you to race. Sounds like she's a control freak. I would never ask a man to change...especially something he loved to do no matter how dangerous it is. Maybe she's jealous of your boat!:jawdrop: :)
Go racing, meet someone new and never call her again, make her eat her ultimatum:)

This is the reason I don't have a woman in my life. All the ones I meet, the first thing that comes out of there mouth is "Get Rid Of The Boats". If she can't appreciate what you like to do for fun and won't share that with you then tell her to take a hike

adjones419
06-07-2007, 06:07 AM
I think that she might be jealous a bit, I do spend a lot of time working on my boat and she has a hard time dealing with that. I invite her to go, and when she finally decides to go she pouts the whole time and is in a pissy mood...makes me feel guilty for even being in the boat. So I think the right decision has been made about the split, just wanted some closure on the issue. Thanks a lot everyone, and you can bet I'll have fun at the race this weekend!

A lot of women are attention freaks.....not me though  It's too bad she can't get involved and enjoy it as much as you. Maybe if you take her to a race and introduce her to everyone she'll have a blast and want you to race? I take it though you've probably already taken her a few times.
Hey you changed your post while I was answering you! Good luck and yeah no one wants a pissy girlfriend/boyfriend at the races with them.......

Mr. Adjones this one's for you.
When I was 23 I met a chick, rediculous, smokin hot, Holy Jababees. She was a CPA by day and a pornstar at night. For me, she was a complete package.
Long story boring, I started a band long before I even knew she existed. After a few years she got a job offer she couldn't refuse and gave me an ultiatum to move to phoenix with her or stay in SoCal and "play my little music". After a meeting with a few of the A&R guy from record labels and a few other casting people backstage after a showcase at the whiskey, I let her ass ramble on to phoenix alone. 2 weeks later got an offer on the table from the record label, 3 days later my singer says "I'm getting married...I quit".
No more band and an amazing chick moved away.
I don't regret staying, I had my shot at a once in a lifetime deal and if I chose her I would probably still curse her for even existing.

If it is like this now, Could you imagine if you marry her and have kids, You still need a life of your own or you will hold it against her and she will end up with half of all your stuff.....
When I met my wife I worked alot of weird hours and played alot, Now 8 years and 2 kids later she tells me to " get your friends and go the lake"... But leave me shopping $$$
Once again quoting the ancient philosopher "Dump That Beotch"

I think you are doing the right thing....My hubby has been involved in many different aspects of racing..... jet skis, dirt bikes, shifter carts, drag boats, cars, desert racing. I would never ask him to choose racing over me...I sometimes go or I find other things to do with my friends...She is being very selfish.
Just my .02 :) Again Good Luck

Everything I'm hearing here is what I've been thinking, it's just nice to hear it from other people sometimes. I am planning on moving out west when I finish graduate school, and she wants to stay in the Midwest to be close to her family...no thanks! I guess no matter how much you care about someone, sometimes you just have to cut your losses and move on.

You are a typical insensititive male that is obviously very selfish about your own needs. You want to be alone and give up love for something as silly as racing a boat, then by all means, be as shallow as a puddle and do what YOU want. Men like you give men a bad name in general and make it more difficult on us that truly love women because we are punished for what you do. Women are justified in the skepticism...nay, their cynicism of men in general because of pigs like you....
aaaarrrrggggg!!!!!!! The anger sharks are swimming in my head!.......YOU GOTTA DUMP THAT BITCH! YOU GOTTA DUMP THAT BITCH!!!

well I used to drag boat race. I asked my girl to marry me at the end of the season in '96. After the first rounds on Saturday she walks up to get a peek at the time slips like she always did. She came back telling me we have to change our wedding date.
Why I asked??? She said it's the same date as the '97 season NJBA opener. lol I knew I had a winner but that sealed the deal right there. I missed that race and am still happy to this day.
I'd say move on and you'll know when you find the right girl for you and your lifestyle.

Generally speaking, girls are dream killers. Although it may START OUT differently, ultimately they have no regard for you achieving your goals, just that their security isn't threatened. If/when you find the exception, that's your keeper. Until then........ DTB

So she's saying you are an asshole. So what?
My response would be, "I'm now a single asshole that's still going to the races."
If she's going to treat you with that kind of disrespect, save yourself the aggravation and don't talk to her any more. If it's over, it's over. Let it be over.
Easier said than done, I know, but it's the most logical thing to do anyway.
On the other hand, you may have taught her a lesson. You've shown her you won't back down and you are your own person. Some girls come to respect that and then accept it. Some don't. Let's see which one she is...

I dated a guy who was a wanna-be rockstar. 5 minutes after climbing off the dude, he starts telling me about his dreams to cut an album and tour the US, to play at festivals and coffee houses.
I caught my breath, grabbed my clothes and said, "wow, Im really NOT the girl for you."
I had to explain that I would DEFINATELY be the dream killer in that relationship. God bless him for his dreams, but it was something I was not interesting in being a part of. I knew he had marginal talent and it's a competive industry. He was 38 and it seemed a bit ridiculous to chase the dream, at that stage of his life.
He was shocked I could be so candid. I told him, "You need some hippie chick that finds your dreams exciting and romantic, that's definately not me."
I then explained I wasnt in the man-changing business OR the dream-killing business...but with him both would be required.

This can only be a taste of things to come, go racing, put yourself first. If she decides she made a mistake it's up to her to come back. She's just testing you to see if you will bend.

If it's not a birthday, anniversary, family reunion, class reunion or something big, then she is being unreasonable. If she just doesn't want you to go for no particular reason, then she is the a$$hole. However, if there is something else that is important to her that is going on, then I can't say without more of the story.
So are you saying that there is no boat racing on those occassions listed in your post or when there is "...something else that is important to her that is going on".....?
WOW.....I'm going home and hug my wife because I got the pick of the litter....next weekend is Father's Day AND my son's birthday.....and guess where we're going.....
Lubbock, Texas to DRAG BOAT RACE......!!!!!
My wife doesn't want to go, but I've got a yard pass and plan on fully exercising it!
There is a country song that applies here. It's called "I'm gonna miss her".
Actually there's a country song for just about every one of lifes problems.
Yepper....and it's by Roy Clark and titled...
"....THANK GOD AND GREYHOUND SHE'S GONE..."
which would be more appropriate in this case.....:D
