I have always wanted to witness the space shuttle launch and landing.
It is so awesome to see on TV, the satellite shots someone on HB posted of a launch were spectacular.
Two of the things I want to see before I go back to the dirt.

I just watched the space station show on discovery 2 nights ago. It seems like an infomercial for NASA. If they could get Paris to host it everyone wins. She would be punished by being forced to use "grown up" words and everyone would pay attention to NASA.
Problem solved.

I am diggin this
How about the fact the center fuel tank is only 1/8 of an inch thick, yet holds back 1.6 million pounds of propellant and withstands 6 million pounds of thrust at lanuch!
Almost end of the hold to continue at T minus 9 minutes...

Isnt it to cool the pad during launch?
Not the primary reason but I guess it can help.

How funny would it be if there was a guy whos job was to light a giant fuse under the shuttle and run like a kid lighting an M-80 on 4th of July. :D

The shuttle is pretty much manufacturing H20 on a large scale during launch

Wish they did it more often. I remember when it seemed like they were going up a few times per year. The US needs to get back in the Space race.
Thats awesome, watching the launch never gets old.

I did hear that as well. No wonder why it weighs 4.5 million pounds.
Don't know about the speed actually, I was just repeating what the commentator was saying during the flight.

I watched it live, in the street in front of my house, from 50 miles away. Always looks cool.
And yes, the speed numbers are real, or you don't make orbit.
Al Gore must be having a fit about the fuel.
Yes, the shuttle doesn't go up nearly as much as it ought, like it was originally planned. You could call the shuttle program a failure. :(
I hate to say it, but it's time the space program gets canned. I have enough maps of Mars.
