Used Everclear once; don't recommend that, it just tasted like...burning. Tried coconut rum once and those two flavors don't really go together well. Blue label Smirnoff (100 proof) is tough to beat in this application. You might try a quality rum, but I wouldn't use a dark one. I've always wanted to try champagne and see if it tasted fizzy...

Hey Squirtan my dad use to do this and it works awsome. Get the biggest watermelon you can find. Cut a hole in the middle and use CAPTAIN MORGAN RUM. plug the hole, tape it up real good and put it out in the river tied to an anchor. All the waves and ruff water makes sure the rum gets through the entire watermelon and the river water keeps the melon cool. At Dusk you slice the melon up and you are tanked after three peices. Give it a try.
